SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This year's San Diego Pride festivities are going virtual, to comply with the Stay-at-home order brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. While hundreds of thousands of people tuned into the program online, others could not resist heading to Hillcrest for the annual celebration. No cars needed to be towed, and no streets needed to be blocked off Saturday. This year's San Diego Pride parade launched virtually in a quiet outdoor patio at Inside-Out restaurant in Hillcrest."Today's going to look a little different, but we're going to keep it as close to normal as possible," San Diego Pride Executive Director, Fernando Lopez, said.Organizers hoped to keep it "normal," despite trying times brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. But Pride is no stranger to the idea of "adapt and overcome.""Our parade has gone through a hurricane, our parade has gone through a bomb threat," San Diego Pride Philanthropy Director, Sarafina Scapicchio said. "We have had challenges to this event happening, and it is very important to keep our Pride traditions alive regardless of what's going on to the community."People who would normally be marching in Hillcrest submitted videos and logged on for live interviews. Others still made their way to University Avenue, to support local LGBTQ businesses and display their pride."Pride is feeling your true self and celebrating with your community," Lorraine Neville said while dining outdoors at Gossip Grill."It means one love," Cindy Lauritzen said, also at the restaurant.Cindy and Janine Lauritzen never miss a Pride. They say they want their love story to inspire the next generation."There was a day when we couldn't be married," Janine Lauritzen said. "Now we are and celebrating that, and getting the younger generations to see that it's OK to be who they are."They were one of the more than 160,000 people who tuned into the virtual parade from around the world.Organizers admit it was not perfect. Periodically, they faced a few digital and audio hiccups. But they say they are proud to spread this year's timely slogan."'Together We Rise,' is our message to everyone," Scapicchio said. "We're going to get through this together."They say even if mass gatherings are canceled, Pride is not.For more information on this weekend's San Diego Pride festivities, click HERE. 2341

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people were rescued from atop the border wall in San Diego Sunday evening, Border Patrol said Tuesday. According to a news release, agents spotted three people perched on top of the wall near Otay Mesa around midnight January 5. A man and two women reportedly tried to enter the U.S. illegally by climbing the wall amid dense fog. “The trio became stuck at the top of the wet, slippery wall after smugglers abandoned them,” the agency said. Border Patrol says all three people, a 36-year-old man, 20-year-old woman and 18-year-old woman, were Mexican Nationals. All three were taken to a Border Patrol station for processing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego City Council Tuesday voted unanimously in favor of adding movable tiny homes to the list of options on how to offer more affordable housing to citizens.Tiny houses are similar to granny flats, but smaller. Tiny houses come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are equipped with the basics for living, sleeping, and cooking. They range in size from 150 square feet to 400 square feet and cost between ,000 and 0,000.Tiny homes can help create an affordable option for low-income residents that doesn’t require a taxpayer subsidy.City officials said, “A significant portion of households in San Diego can afford a movable tiny house as an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). The average cost of rent for a tiny home is 0 a month. A property owner would recover their initial investment in eight years. After that, the rent from the tiny house could help cover their mortgage and other expenses.”Currently, the city allows homeowners to build accessory dwelling units on their properties. With Tuesday’s approval, homeowners can add tiny homes to their properties.“Moveable tiny homes are a great option that naturally increases affordable housing at no cost to taxpayers. It’s a win for the homeowner, it’s a win for the renter, and it’s a win for the taxpayer,” said San Diego City Councilman Scott Sherman. “I appreciate my colleagues support for this important housing reform. We must continue pushing for common sense solutions that result in naturally occurring affordable housing.”Sherman has been working to approve the ordinance since 2018, the city said. 1607

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego Police Department is looking for four instruments that were stolen from the San Diego Junior Theatre over the weekend.Junior Theater Executive Director James Saban said two guitars and two bass guitars were taken sometime Friday night or Saturday morning. They are described as a white Fender Stratocaster with a checkered strap, a red Epiphone archtop guitar, a seafoam and white Fender bass guitar and a cream Fender Mustang bass guitar.“It was my prized possession, my baby,” said Oliver Davis of his Fender Stratocaster. “So finding out it was stolen was a bummer.”Davis plays the guitar on stage as part of his character. After discovering it was missing Saturday morning, he said he and the other musicians had to rush to find replacements so they could perform their matinee.“Everyone was getting loaned instruments,” he said. The theater has filed a police report but the instruments have not yet been found.Anyone with information can call the San Diego Police Department at 619-531-2000. 1036
