The university also encouraged on-campus residents to return home. The university said that just 15.1% of its main campus housing was being utilized as of Monday, down from 60.5% a week prior.As a number of universities begin in-person learning, the surge of cases at UNC offers a cautionary tale of operating a major university amid the worst pandemic to hit the US in over a century. A white van drove onto a busy Toronto sidewalk, and struck dozens of pedestrians, killing 10 and wounding 15, Toronto Police officials said on Monday. Later in the day, police said that Alek Minassian allegedly targeted the crowd of pedestrians. Police were called to the area of Yonge Street at Finch Avenue around 1:30 p.m. local time after the van fled from the scene. Police have since shutdown the area, and blocked off several streets. Authorities later caught up to the van and its driver.Canadian news agency the CBC reported that the van's driver is in custody.Video from the incident showed several ambulances taking away victims on stretchers from the scene of the incident. Stephen Powell, district chief for Toronto Fire, said that targeted pedestrians for up to one mile. The CBC has reported that part of Toronto's subway service has been shutdown. The area is in the North York neighborhood of Toronto, which is several miles north of Downtown. (AP) -- Authorities say seven people were fatally shot in Southern California at an illegal marijuana growing operation.The crime scene was discovered around 12:30 a.m. Monday when Riverside County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the community of Aguanga about 50 miles north of San Diego.Deputies found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds and paramedics took her to a hospital, where she died.Six more people were then found dead. A search did not locate any suspects.Authorities say they do not believe that there is a threat to the general public. 638
