It's the allergic shiners that cause the sleep disturbances," said Dr. Walter Castro, a pulmonologist and pediatric sleep specialist for Banner Health. To improve sleep doctors suggest:- Get kids treated for allergies- Limit screen time before bed- Develop a routine like showering in dim light, reading a real book; it helps signal the brain that it's time to sleep.- More exercise- High schoolers may need a melatonin prescription because hormones make them night owlsA new study from Rand Corporation finds pushing back the first bell at school could not only help students get the sleep they need but also add billions of dollars to the economy.Based on an 8:30 a.m. start in 47 states, the study finds the first year returns start low because schools would have to invest in moving after school programs and maybe more buses as everyone would be on the same drop off schedule. It also projects a .3 billion surge in the first year. (KGTV) -- With both finalists in the race to become San Diego's next mayor being Democrats, a surprise, late endorsement by the Republican who nearly cracked the top two in the primary could help tip the balance in what appears to be a close election.Over the weekend, City Councilmember Scott Sherman endorsed Assemblymember Todd Gloria over fellow Councilmember Barbara Bry. In a Twitter thread, Sherman stated "After much thought, I can’t in good conscience vote for Barbara Bry. She is inauthentic, inconsistent, and untrustworthy."Sherman went on to say that he had disagreements with Gloria on the issues, but praised him for consistency and authenticity. In an interview with ABC 10News, Gloria said he was grateful for Sherman's endorsement. "Clearly we’re from different political parties and we disagree on many, many issues. But at the end of the day, he’s casting his vote based on character. And what he shared is really meaningful to me.”Bry told ABC 10News she believes Sherman endorsed her opponent because she had defeated him in the primary, as well as in issues two faced together on the council. (KGTV) - People who live and work around Carmel Mountain are having their patience tested by a road work project.San Diego Public Works began laying new asphalt on a two-mile stretch of Rancho Carmel Drive on Monday this week and so far it’s been three days of congestion for those who have to drive through the area.“This is insane,” said one driver who had been waiting for over an hour on connecting to go a few blocks.Several people told 10News they had been in traffic for up to two hours in a quarter-mile span because of the road work.In a statement SDPW wrote:In response to the increase in traffic, we have sent one of our traffic engineers to the site to assess how the traffic control can be improved to reduce the traffic impacts of the work. We want to apologize to all those that were impacted by the traffic. We expect that this particular stretch of work should be completed today, and the remainder of the paving work on Rancho Carmel Dr. should be done within a week or two, with final striping to follow.SDPW says crews will work 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and they plan to have the Rancho Carmel Dr. project done by April 20. 1183

A billboard located near a busy highway in Kentucky was vandalized with an anti-gun message on Monday.Commuters on I-65 in Louisville noticed the billboard read "KILL THE NRA" on Monday morning. The billboard also read "RESIST 45," an apparent reference to President Donald Trump.According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, the owner of the billboard, Outfront Media, said the billboard had been vandalized that that the graffiti had been immediately removed. 473
