SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Protesters will be out in full force Saturday protesting the Crossroads of the West gun show in Del Mar.The protest is set to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Jimmy Durante Boulevard and Villa De La Valle.In years past, gun control advocates have targeted the show aiming to have the fairgrounds cancel the event.In 2016, a group of gun control advocates lobbied the Del Mar Fairgrounds board to end the shows saying the venue is inappropriate for a gun show."They glamorize the gun culture and help put more guns and more ammunition into the society. We don't believe the public facilities of the fairgrounds should be used for a purpose that is harmful to the public health and welfare," said Wayne Dernetz, of a group called Advocates for Gun Safety.Saturday’s gun show begins at 9 a.m. and will last until 5 p.m. 834

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was killed in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 805 in the South Bay that forced lane closures and led to a heavy traffic backup during the Wednesday morning commute.Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol reported a crash involving a Nissan pickup truck colliding with a Caltrans truck that was working along the side of northbound I-805 near Bonita Road.CHP officials determined that a Toyota Yaris struck the pickup, causing it to slam into the back of the Caltrans truck, which was hauling asphalt.CHECK TRAFFIC CONDITIONS10News learned the Nissan's driver died at the hospital after sustaining injuries from the wreck.Yaris' driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.No other injuries were reported, and CHP officials said the crash is under investigation.The crash and clean-up led to the closure of at least two lanes on northbound I-805 at Bonita Road. The onramp from Bonita Road to northbound I-805 was also shut down.The closures caused a traffic jam that extended south past Palomar Street in Chula Vista.To alleviate some of the gridlock, the CHP opened the HOV lanes to all vehicles. 1207

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Portable restrooms to combat the hepatitis A outbreak are being installed in downtown San Diego for the homeless.The City of San Diego is providing restrooms, hand-washing stations and security guards to stop the spread of the disease.The restrooms will be cleaned twice a day.RELATED: How to tell if you have hepatitis AKen Slusher, a homeless Navy veteran, has used the restrooms twice since the City installed them on C St. and First Ave.Slasher is concerned the restrooms won’t be around long.Despite the 24/7 security, Slusher said he found a needle on the floor during one of his trips to the restroom.RELATED: Los Angeles hepatitis A cases linked to San Diego outbreak“It was already used, the cap was off, the needle was exposed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police have arrested a suspect accused of shooting and killed a man outside a Clairemont home in January. Jeffery Alan Turner, 36, has been charged with murder after he reportedly shot and killed 52-year-old Frank Magana.Police were called to the home, located on the 4600 block of Sauk Avenue, on January 3 after receiving reports of a shooting.RELATED: Man shot in head outside Clairemont home dies?When police arrived they found Magana lying on the ground in front of his home with a gunshot wound to the head.A woman who lives near the home where the shooting took place said, "I looked at the clock because I heard a gunshot. It was one single gunshot, I knew it wasn't a firework. It was scary. It made the hair on the back of my next stand up."Magana was taken to the hospital where he later died. 837

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People looking to buy a new or used car may have to hurry if they want to take advantage of the Coronavirus Pandemic's best deals and discounts.Recent studies from the California New Car Dealers Association show that sales of new cars in San Diego were down by 18.6% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same time of 2019. That's better than the state average of 21% but still worrisome for the industry.President Paul Dyke says his dealership saw sales drop in the 10-15% range at El Cajon Ford. But he says the company did a great job of offering deals to bring people into the lots, such as low-interest financing, long term payment plans, and lower prices."Zero percent is always something that gets people moving," says Dyke. "Now for the first time in Ford's history, doing it at 84 months on quite a few of the models really kept things going."The CNDCA says the Pandemic forced the industry to readjust its outlook for the year. They now predict new car sales to reach about 1.5 million in 2020, down from 2.1 million in 2019. If sales stay slow, it could be the worst year for new car sales since the Great Recession.Meanwhile, used cars are flooding the market as rental companies upgrade their fleet.Hertz recently filed for bankruptcy. The company iSeeCars.com did a study on their prices and found that Hertz was offering sales discounts in May that were 43% greater than the discounts they offered in April."There are still plenty of deals to be had," says Amada Lasik from iSeeCars.com. "That's especially true for cars that have been lingering on lots for a while, so we invite consumers to do as much research as they can."Manheim, a company that does used car auctions across the country, says used cars have been staying on lots for longer than usual. According to their data, almost 64% of used cars sold within 30 days back in February. By March, that number had dropped to 53%. The longer a car stays on the lot, the more likely a dealer will offer it at a lower price.Manheim also found that used car sales were down 34% in April compared to 2019, while wholesale used car prices dropped more than 11%.All that being said, experts believe these numbers will bounce back over the summer as restrictions ease.Dyke says his most significant concern for the industry is inventory. Since factories were closed for several months during the Pandemic, dealerships won't have as many cars to sell in July and August.Dyke says the companies will raise prices and eliminate the deals as demand increases while supply dwindles. 2574
