EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested Wednesday morning after police in El Cajon say she reportedly stabbed her grandmother. The department received a 911 call around 10:18 a.m. from a woman who said her grandmother was stabbed during a burglary on the 1200 block of North Mollison Avenue. After officers arrived, they found the woman who appeared to have been stabbed several times. The woman was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. After investigating the stabbing, police determined that the woman’s adult granddaughter, Elektra Del Sol, 19, was responsible for the crime. She was arrested and booked into jail. At this time, the victim hasn't been identified. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3300. 802
Dr. Anthony Fauci has been touting the safety of the new Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, hoping to convince the roughly 40% of Americans who, surveys show, will not get a shot.A Pew Research survey showed that the rate for not getting a shot was higher among the Black community. Given this country’s history of government experimentation on communities of color, the distrust and skepticism is understandable.During a live interview this week on Facebook hosted by BlackDoctor.org, Fauci acknowledged the troubled history and highlighted a Black doctor who was instrumental in developing the vaccine.Fauci said the vaccine had “absolutely exquisite levels” of efficacy, and “that vaccine was actually developed in my institute’s vaccine research center by a team of scientists led by Dr. Barney Graham and his close colleague, Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, or Kizzy Corbett,” Fauci said during the interview that was streamed on Facebook live.Dr. Corbett tweeted after the interview, thanking the hosts for asking the question. 1036
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The pandemic created a surge in food insecurity in San Diego and the purple tier restrictions are making it worse. Neighbors are stepping in to fill the bellies of those in need.In El Cajon a bright yellow wooden box is perched next to the sidewalk. On it a sign reads, "Blessing Box".Inside it's stocked like a mini grocery store, with grains like rice and pasta, beans, canned vegetables and protein. Single serving hot chocolate, tea and oatmeal line the second shelf. On the top shelf, snacks, drinks, and items to round out a meal are ready for the taking.Andrea Roberts heard of a Blessing Box in 2018 on social media and immediately knew she needed one.Her friend had the same intuition and had her husband craft the wooden box. They surprised Roberts by dropping it off on her porch.Roberts painted the box, affixed a stand to it, and cemented the stand in the grass next to her sidewalk in September 2018.Momentum has been growing through social media and the urge to help during the pandemic."Yesterday was jam packed, I had several people come and bring stuff, so much stuff they left the excess on the porch," Roberts said. She lifted her garage door to unveil piles of food and shelves of canned food, illustrating the willingness to give by the community."I'm overwhelmed, really overwhelmed." Roberts said when she put up the box she thought it would be self sustaining, 'take what you need and give what you can.'Since the pandemic, she said, there's been a surge in need and donations.According to the San Diego Hunger Coalition, more than 1,000,000 San Diegans are food insecure. That translates to three out of every ten people in the county don't know where they'll get their next meal."My hope is just that people find a resource where there is no shame no timeline, if you're working and you're barely making it. Maybe you can't get to a food distribution or a pantry, where this is available 24 hours a day."There are Blessing Boxes around San Diego, at churches, one in La Mesa, Santee, Escondido and Julian. During an interview on Fox News Tuesday, President Donald Trump attacked the Committee on Presidential Debates, deriding the committee's choice of moderator and rule changes that require candidates' microphones to be muted while an opponent is giving opening statements."I think this whole thing is crazy," Trump said. The committee announced the new rule change on Monday, three days ahead of the final presidential debate between Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.Trump said those on the committee "are not good people," citing a 2016 debate with Hillary Clinton in which the committee admitted that there were issues with Trump's microphone.Trump also took issue with the committee's choice of moderator, NBC News' Kristen Welker, calling her "terrible and totally partisan."According to the CPD website, the committee selects moderators based on three criteria: "a) familiarity with the candidates and the major issues of the presidential campaign; b) extensive experience in live television broadcast news; and c) an understanding that the debate should focus maximum time and attention on the candidates and their views."In August, the Trump campaign submitted a list of 24 suggested moderators packed with anchors and pundits from friendly outlets like Fox News, and a few journalist from broadcast networks like CBS, ABC and NBC. None of those moderators were chosen, though Fox News anchor Chris Wallace conducted the first presidential debate.Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien recently filed a complaint with the CPD, saying that the debate should have more of a focus on foreign policy. The listed topics for Thursday's debate include "Fighting COVID-19, American Families, Race in America, Climate Change and National Security Leadership." Topics are chosen by the moderators alone, and topics were not designated for each event. The CPD responded to Trump's criticism on Tuesday morning, saying on Twitter that "no debate in 2020 was ever designated by CPD as devoted to foreign or domestic policy." 2038
