SAN YSIDRO, California — Migrants rushed the border Sunday morning, forcing the closure of the San Ysidro Port of Entry and several San Diego interstates. Southbound Interstate 5 and 805 closed at State Route 905, forcing drivers to be rerouted on one of the busiest travel days of the year. All north and southbound lanes of the port of entry were also closed to all vehicles and pedestrians, halting traffic. Las Americas Premium Outlets was also shut down due to safety and security. SAN MARCOS (CNS) - The majority of classes at Palomar College will remain online during the spring 2021 semester to remain in compliance with public health orders, college officials announced Friday."The Palomar College community continues to do its part to slow the spread of this virus," said Interim Superintendent/President Jack Kahn. "We will proceed in an abundance of caution, mindful of the fact that some courses need physical classroom time more than others and serve essential industries in our region."The announcement follows a similar one Thursday from the San Diego Community College District, which stated San Diego City, Mesa and Miramar colleges will remain online throughout the 2020-21 school year, along with San Diego Continuing Education.Palomar College says it will expand onsite instruction for specific programs, while maintaining strict adherence to all COVID-19 prevention guidelines.The academic programs offering both online and on-site instruction in spring 2021 include police academy, fire academy, paramedics, nursing, dental assisting, cabinet and furniture technology, welding, diesel mechanics technology, auto body, auto tech, air conditioning, water technology and wastewater technology, drone technology and Biology 212.The college is also awaiting guidance from the California Community College Athletics Association on how to offer competitive athletics and training programs.Kahn emphasized that Palomar College reserves the right to revise the spring 2021 schedule, depending on the status of the health crisis in the region. 1577

SAN YSIDRO (KGTV) - Two people were critically injured in a car crash Sunday night after a driver sped through the Port of Entry. The crash happened around 10:15 p.m. on Dairy Mart Road near Interstate 5. According to police, a driver in a Chevrolet Silverado drove through the port of entry without stopping before crashing head-on into a Mitsubishi Lancer. One person was in the truck and another in the car at the time of the crash. Both were critically injured. The California Highway Patrol later confirmed to 10News that the driver of the truck is suspected of driving under the influence. 604
Scooter company Lime is recalling one of its models from every city after realizing it could break apart while in use. The company says the model occasionally breaks "when subject to repeated abuse."The scooters were manufactured by a Chinese company called Okai, according to a Washington Post interview with Lime representatives. The Washington Post said it could not get in touch with Okai for comment.Lime plans to decommission any Okai scooters in its fleets.Those who experience the breaking scooter are typically leaving them where they break, and it has been difficult for the company to tally how many have broken, the Washington Post reports.This recall follows one issued a couple months ago stating some Lime scooters could catch fire. That recall of 2,000 scooters said some have batteries that smoldered and sometimes caught fire.The recall had a small impact in Lime's west coast markets. 911

(CNS) - The Golden State Killer will hear testimonials from many of the women he raped beginning Tuesday and through Thursday, when Orange County's victims will have their say.Victim impact statements in the sentencing for Joseph James DeAngelo Jr., 74, begin Tuesday morning with his many rape victims when he was known as the Visalia Ransacker and then later as the East Area Rapist and original Night Stalker.DeAngelo admitted his guilt June 29 in a string of murders, rapes and other crimes in the 1970s and 1980s, stretching from Sacramento County to Orange County. He pleaded guilty to 13 counts of first-degree murder and murder during the commission of rape, robbery and burglary, 13 counts of kidnapping to commit robbery with sentencing enhancements for the use of a gun and a knife.DeAngelo also admitted in his plea deal to crimes for which he could no longer be peosecuted because of a statute of limitations -- such as attempted murder, kidnapping to commit robbery, rape, robbery, first-degree burglary, false imprisonment and criminal threats. 1085
