If confirmed, he will be the first Latino to lead the department.The HHS is a -trillion-plus agency with 80,000 employees and oversees several issues including drugs and vaccines, medical research, and health insurance programs. During his time as AG, Becerra has been an advocate of the Affordable Care Act.Biden has been under increasing pressure to expand racial and ideological diversity in his Cabinet and other top jobs, the AP reported. Of the nine major picks made so far, Biden has selected two white men: Secretary of State choice Antony Blinken and chief of staff Ron Klain.Civil rights leaders have called for diverse choices for the "big four" Cabinet positions of secretaries of state, defense, treasury, and the attorney general. His latest was in Minnesota on Wednesday in front of thousands, a day before he announced he tested positive for COVID-19."Rolling into the last month the president was planning to be on the campaign trail, in front of large crowds, where he thrives, the venue where he performs the best, and this is certainly an obstacle to that style of campaigning," said Thad Kousser, a political analyst at UC San Diego.Kousser said depending on what happens, an already political virus could make for different conclusions from each side."It'll confirm the worries that Joe Biden supporters had that the country and the nation and its president weren't taking the pandemic seriously enough," Kousser said. "If President Trump, as we all hope has a quick recovery, I think that will confirm the belief that the Trump base has that this is something that we can overcome."Kousser says he expects Joe Biden to continue to campaign on the road, but even more carefully.He says if either candidate were to become incapacitated it would make for an even more chaotic election because ballots will have already started going out.Kousser says each party has policies in place to select a replacement candidate should the need arise. (KGTV) – The Drug Enforcement Administration in Los Angeles County announced a record-breaking seizure of narcotics on Wednesday.The DEA’s Los Angeles Division stated agents seized about 893 pounds of cocaine, 13 pounds of heroin, and 2,224 pounds of methamphetamine.The meth seizure is the largest domestic methamphetamine seizure in DEA history, officials said.DEA Acting Administrator Timothy Shea said, "This is enough dope to prove a dose of meth for every man, women and child in the United States and Mexico. Study after study shows that where there is meth addiction, there is also an uptick in violent crime, including robberies, assaults and murders."Operation Crystal Shield is a nationwide effort involving 70 to 80 investigators in nine cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix and Atlanta. Agents seized more than 4,800 pounds of meth nationwide and are still working on more arrests, according to the DEA.The Southern California seizure occurred on Oct. 2, 2020, officials said.
