OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Since 1975, the Oceanside Senior Citizens Association has been serving hot meals to North County seniors in need. Due to financial hardships, that will end after Dec. 28."Our program has skyrocketed, we have a lot of seniors that are below poverty level, they have no family, they have no finances," Executive Director Sylvia Spears said. "Our meal is sometimes the only meal they get for the day and we ask for a donation only, we never turn anybody down if they can’t make a donation."Spears says the program is funded by senior donations, the county, and grants. However, she says senior donations have dropped 75 percent and they now have more clients than ever. Spears says the nonprofit asked the City of Oceanside for help, requesting an additional ,000 a month. The city could only offer half of that."I had to realize that we just couldn’t go on anymore and that’s hard because I know what these meals mean to these seniors," said Spears. Despite the nonprofit shutting down, the city says it’s committed to ensuring there’s no gap in services."Those who’ve been participating in the nutrition program will continue to have access to that here at the Senior Center as well as within their homes if they choose to do so," said Mark Olson, Parks and Recreation Division manager for Oceanside.Olson says they are working closely with the county to bring in another meal provider. 1423

On Tuesday night, thousands of fans will fill Ford Field in Detroit to see Taylor Swift perform. In the crowd, will be 15-year-old Tiffany Kleinschmidt of Waterford.The teen, who's a huge T Swift fan, suffered a traumatic brain injury last April after going into cardiac arrest at school. She's been in the hospital for months learning how to walk and talk again, but on Tuesday, she'll leave for the first time since the tragedy. She'll be going to the Taylor Swift concert. Taylor's music has been instrumental in Tiffany's healing. She loves her," says Tiffany's mom, Dawn.The concert tickets were donated to Tiffany by a total stranger named Laken Tiller. Laken grew up in Windsor, but lives in Quebec and works as a nurse. She's also a superfan of Taylor Swift and had purchased tickets.She realized she couldn't go, but didn't want to sell the tickets. She decided to donate them to someone who could really use a night out.So, Laken contacted Children's Hospital of Michigan. The hospital did an extensive search and decided Tiffany would be perfect for the surprise gift.Laken says she sees people who are sick all the time because of her job and she wanted to do something nice for someone who could use a break."I hope that she gets to meet Taylor Swift," she says. 1512

One of the jurors from Paul Manafort's trial said on Wednesday that although she "did not want Paul Manafort to be guilty," the evidence was "overwhelming.""I thought that the public, America, needed to know how close this was, and that the evidence was overwhelming," Paula Duncan said in an interview on Fox News. "I did not want Paul Manafort to be guilty, but he was, and no one's above the law. So it was our obligation to look through all the evidence."Duncan, who is the first juror to speak publicly, offered a look behind the scenes of the deliberations. She noted that "crazily enough, there were even tears," and detailed some of the jury's conversations with the lone juror who she said was the reason Manafort was not found guilty on all counts."We all tried to convince her to look at the paper trail. We laid it out in front of her again and again and she still said that she had a reasonable doubt. And that's the way the jury worked. We didn't want it to be hung, so we tried for an extended period of time to convince her, but in the end she held out and that's why we have 10 counts that did not get a verdict," Duncan said on "Fox News at Night."Manafort, who served as President Donald Trump's campaign chairman, was found guilty on eight of 18 counts on Tuesday, and is facing up to 80 years in prison. Duncan described Gates as "nervous," and said the jury ultimately threw away his testimony during deliberation."Some of us had a problem accepting his testimony because he took the plea. So we agreed to throw out his testimony and look at the paperwork, which his name was all over," Duncan said."I think he would have done anything to preserve himself -- that's just obvious in the fact that he flipped on Manafort," she later added.Duncan, who said she is a Trump supporter herself, said the President's name did come up during deliberations because "in the evidence there were references to Trump and his son-in-law and to the Trump campaign," but later added that she didn't think politics played a part in the jury's decision."I think we all went in there like we were supposed to and assumed that Mr. Manafort was innocent. We did due diligence, we applied the evidence, our notes, the witnesses and we came up with the guilty verdicts on the eight counts," she said.Manafort will be on trial again next month on a second set of charges, this time in a Washington federal court. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A woman was arrested in Oceanside after trying to smuggle methamphetamine with her 7-year-old in the car. Border Patrol agents pulled the woman over near the Oceanside Harbor Interstate 5 exit just after 4 p.m. Tuesday. After becoming suspicious of the driver’s behavior, agents found more than 48 pounds of the drug inside a duffle bag in the trunk. Willie Pong enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943; he was only 17 but lied about his age. He served almost three years as a ship's cook.Pong's parents were born in China and moved to America to give their kids a better life, which they did. But as a boy, Pong faced discrimination.
