Newly released dash cam video shows a drunk driver talking with police officers just minutes before he got back into his car, drove off and then collided head-on with a woman, killing them both.The incident happened December 30, 2017.Testing would later determined that Desten Houge's blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.The video show the aftermath of a single car accident, where Houge lost control and then ended up in the ditch. That accident happened around 4 p.m.Pittsfield Township Sgt. Matthew Hornbeck can be seen talking with Houge and then helping him up after he fell down.Hornbeck would call a tow truck to get the 32-year-old Houge's car out of the ditch. The driver discovered the rear sway bar was busted, but the car was still drivable.Hornbeck and another police officer would clear the scene, but they did not give Houge a field sobriety test.Roughly an hour later and another 1,000 feet down Michigan Avenue, witnesses reported seeing Houge's car fishtailing, then crossing the center line, slamming into another vehicle driven by 55-year-old Lake Jacobson, who died four days later of injuries suffered in the crash.In police reports obtained by Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit, witnesses describe being surprised by the speed Houge was driving, considering he was losing control.Another witness, who swerved to miss Houge, said they saw car parts flying before the collision.The reports cite car condition and a possible collision with a pothole as a factor in the crash. However, those reports were from before Houge's autopsy came back, establishing he had a BAC of .24, as well as THC in his system.Both Hornbeck and the other officer who helped Houge before the fatal accident said they did not notice any signs of impairment.WXYZ was unable to reach Pittsfield Township Police for comment. NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — President Donald Trump thanked an Indiana teacher for helping thwart a school shooting on Friday at Noblesville West Middle School outside of Indianapolis."Thanks to very brave Teacher & Hero Jason Seaman of Noblesville, Indiana, for his heroic act in saving so many precious young lives. NOBLESVILLE, Indiana — Concertgoers at a Rascal Flatts concert in Indiana on Thursday night were left wondering what happened after the event ended abruptly.Due to a "security concern," everybody in the band had to leave the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center, according to a Facebook post from Rascal Flatts."The safety of our fans, band and crew is always the top priority for us, so we are so thankful for everyone who jumped into action and for your understanding," the post reads. Caitlyn Conlon had front-row tickets for the concert. She said at the beginning of the concert, everyone felt safe, and one of the band members said to the crowd, "With everything going on in the world today, we are Americans first before anything else. We are all one and just forget everything going on and let’s all become one tonight.”Later in the concert, the keyboard player started to play another song, then abruptly stopped, she said. Conlon said they were told by security that they had to leave right away. NEW YORK (AP and KGTV) — Sears is closing 80 more stores, including six locations in San Diego, as it teeters on the brink of liquidation.The iconic retailer, once the nation's largest department store chain, set a deadline of Friday for bids for its remaining stores to avert closing down completely.Sears has not received any bids as of Friday afternoon.The retailer that began out as a mail order catalog in the 1880s has been in a slow death spiral, hobbled by the Great Recession and then overwhelmed by rivals both down the street and across the internet.The 80 stores are due to close by March. That's in addition to 182 stores already slated for closure, including 142 by the end of 2108 and 40 by February. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October , saying at the time it would close more than 20 percent of all stores, keeping open only its 500 most profitable locations.Sears Holdings Corp., which also runs Kmart, joins the list of retail brands taken over by hedge funds that collapsed under the weight of debt forced upon them.Under hedge fund manager Eddie Lampert, Sears has bought time by spinning off stores and putting on the block the brands that had grown synonymous with the company, such as Craftsman. The company's chairman and biggest shareholder, Lampert loaned out his own money and put together deals to keep the company afloat and to turn whatever profit he could for ESL hedge fund.
