SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fans and players on Petco Park's field fled as hundreds of bees swarmed near the Padres' dugout Sunday afternoon.At about 4:06 p.m., in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Fox Sports reported a queen bee landed on their microphone and hundreds of bees followed suit."It made my skin crawl," Padres Fan Kel Loftis said."Out of the blue all of the sudden you saw everybody running off the field," Padres Fan Bob Pollack said.As fans saw the area clear out, some were concerned for their family's safety, "it was kinda crazy like what's going on?" Loftis said. As a military man, he was concerned something more serious was happening.Then everyone in the stadium saw the television screens with a close up on the swarm. "Between [Austin] Hedges, [Josh] Naylor and [Glenn] Hoffman, you know the third base coach, I was wondering who was more panicked," Loftis said chuckling.Padres Catcher Austin Hedges was seen wearing a Deadpool mask, sweatshirt and holding two bats, seemingly ready to battle the bees. A man from Cartwright Pest Control came out to save the day. Fans dubbed him "Bee Man." The delay in total was less than 30 minutes.The Padres confirmed the company is out at the park for every game in case of an event like this.A group of Girl Scouts in the crowd were concerned about the safety of the bees. This isn't the first time Petco's had bees, a swarm showed up in July of 2009 and delayed the game by almost an hour.While fans thought the bee delay Sunday was strange, they took it in stride.Some parents used it as a teachable moment. "Well she had a lot of questions so the first thing she said was why are the bees out there?" SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hawaii recently passed a ban on sunscreens containing certain chemicals deemed harmful to their coral reefs.With more than 70 miles of coastline in San Diego County, the question of whether a similar ban could affect our region has been brought to light.The chemicals in question are oxybenzone or octinoxate, both of which are found in many commonly purchased sunscreens.RELATED: What ingredients to avoid, look for in reef-safe sunscreensA study by the Haereticus Environmental Laboratory found the chemicals seep into young coral and lead to coral bleaching, which occurs when an increase in sea temperatures kills the algae that grow inside coral, turning reefs white. This eliminates other nutrients that sustain marine life.Researchers say 14,000 tons of sunscreen lotion gets into reefs around the world every year.We asked our 10News Facebook fans how they would feel about a similar ban in California. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Details about a woman’s report of a violent rape were revealed in a downtown San Diego courtroom Wednesday as a resident of a nearby halfway house was charged with the crime. Juan Guzman pleaded not guilty to attacking the woman at 1:40 a.m. December 16 at her home in City Heights. Prosecutors said the victim was sitting on her bedroom floor in front of a mirror when she heard a noise and thought it was her boyfriend. She then saw the reflection of a man she didn’t know, according to attorneys. The man put his finger over his mouth and said “Shh”, the woman reportedly told police. He threatened her with a knife and raped her, prosecutors said. The woman called police, who questioned the man at the halfway house where he lived. Investigators found the woman’s underwear and the knife underneath Guzman’s mattress, prosecutors said. A judge set Guzman’s bail at million, saying he was a danger to the community. Guzman’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 3. 1006
