"We wanted to do something fun for the people coming out to support and get them involved as well."Plus, many locals are already planning on spending the weekend of love cuddled up with their best cuddly friend, right?"It does sound like something you want to put on their bucket list," Granche adds. The 18-and-over event takes place Sunday, Feb. 16, at Bub's at the Ballpark from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The record always requires one person per dog. 1223

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego and Comic-Con go back far before Hollywood stars and blockbuster films took over headlines every July. The convention started in the Grant Hotel across from Horton Plaza Park as a simple gathering in the hotel's basement. Fifty years later, it has become a very different event, sprawled across downtown San Diego for everyone, ticket or not.But San Diego's roots to comics can be enjoyed throughout the year without the convention. Art galleries, comic shops, and famous landmarks all offer comic fans something to enjoy outside five days each summer.Comic art galleries in Liberty Station and the Gaslmap District: Check out tons of comic art exhibits and events at Liberty Station inside the San Diego Comic Art Gallery (2765 Truxtun Rd., San Diego) or visit the Chuck Jones Gallery (232 Fifth Ave., San Diego) and peruse artwork including Chuck Jones original sketches and special exhibits.Famous movie locations in San Diego: If you're a fan of the films at Comic-Con, explore the locations around San Diego where movies made their mark. The Hotel Del Coronado was featured in the 1959 classic "Some Like It Hot" and 1986's "Top Gun" filmed numerous scenes around town, the most famous being Kansas City Barbeque (600 Harbor Drive). More locations.Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park: The San Diego Hall of Champions will become the Comic-Con Museum in spring 2021, but you can check it out early at this year's Comic-Con with The Batman Experience. The museum will eventually feature comic artwork, exhibits, special programming, and events throughout the year in Balboa Park.San Diego Comic Fest: If you just can't shake the need for a comic convention, San Diego Comic Fest hits Mission Valley in the spring. The smaller, more intimate comic convention is put on by previous SDCC organizers. The convention still delivers on comic book and film interests, but on a less chaotic scale.San Diego Symphony performs popular hits: You can't help but appreciate an exciting soundtrack. The San Diego Symphony performs music from films during various shows throughout the year. Some performances even play films on a big screen as the orchestra provides the score live.Star Wars celebrations: Because of Comic-Con's success, San Diego knows how to throw a good Star Wars celebration. The San Diego Padres have started holding a special Star Wars themed game and local cosplay groups, like the Imperial Sand Garrison of the 501st Legion, can be seen at local events. Now Disneyland has "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge," giving locals another morsel of galactic fun to check out. Just wait for May the Fourth (May 4th.)Comic book shops across San Diego: Stores like Comics-N-Stuff, Yesteryear's Comics, and Comickaze provide endless adventures through comic books for all fans. Whether you're looking for a new read, funs merchandise, or just to banter with fellow comic book fans, you'll find it at a local comic shop. 2944

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Fire-Rescue Thursday pulled a man to safety who fell 30 feet into a trench on the grounds of a work site at UC San Diego. According to the department, the incident happened just before 3 p.m. on Voit Drive at Matthews Lane. Crews used a pulley system to get the worker, a man in his 20s, out of the trench. He was then taken to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of blunt-force injuries and burns he received when he landed on a steam pipe. His condition is unknown at this time. RELATED: 1 dead, 4 injured in accident at construction site at UC San DiegoNearby workers and an officer were able to climb down and stay with the worker until he could be safely lifted out of the trench. The incident comes after one of five workers injured in a construction site accident died on the UC San Diego campus in July of 2019. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego is among the top cities for termites, according to a new ranking from Orkin. San Diego placed 11th among 50 other cities around the U.S., but America's Finest City wasn't alone. Los Angeles was ranked 2nd on the list. The company says all areas of the U.S. are prone to subterranean termites, but Pacific U.S. and coastal regions of the Southeast also have the threat of drywood termites. RELATED: Water rupture causes millions of dollars in damages to La Jolla homeTermites generally swarm based on favorable weather conditions, Orkin says, but different types of termites swarm at different times. Subterranean termites swarm in the spring and summer while drywood termites usually swam in the late summer and fall. Orkin says termites find their way into homes because urbanization leaves fewer dead trees laying around. "U.S. residents spend an estimated billion annually to control termites and repair termite damage – which occurs in approximately 600,000 homes each year,” said Glen Ramsey, an Orkin entomologist.RELATED: Devastating 'ARk' storm envisioned for California by U.S. Geological SurveyOrkin says the list is based on data from metro areas where the company performed the most first-time customer termite treatments from February 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019. Check out the list below for the 15 worst cities in the U.S. for termites: MiamiLos AngelesTampaNew YorkNew OrleansAtlantaWashington, D.C.West Palm BeachSan FranciscoDallasSan DiegoOrlandoPhoenixHoustonRaleigh, N.C.According to Orkin, termites can get into homes through things like wooden structures like porches or decks, stacks of firewood leaning afainst a home and damp soil near foundations. Trees and shrubs close to homes can also pose a risk. Check out the lists below for what to look for if you're concerned you may have termites: Signs of a termite infestation include:A temporary swarm of winged insects in your home or from the soil around your homeAny cracked or bubbling paint or frass (termite droppings)Wood that sounds hollow when tappedMud tubes on exterior walls, wooden beams or in crawl spacesDiscarded wings from swarmersProactive tips that Orkin recommends for homeowners:Check water drainage sites to ensure they remain cleared and effective.Monitor the collection of moisture by fixing pipes, gutters, downspouts, A/C units and other fixtures susceptible to leaking.Caulk around utility lines or pipes.Get rid of rotting wood and debris near the home.Place screens on outside vents.Check wooden structures for damage. So, if you do find termites, do you need to tent your home? According to Orkin, structural fumigation is a treatment technique used to control drywood termite infestations. This type of treatment method should only be used when the infestation is extensive, hard to locate or difficult to access, the company says. Other types of treatment include termidor liquid termite treatments, dry foam and sentricon bait and monitoring. Click here for more information. 3024
