PARIS, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy met with hundreds of Chinese representatives during a reception at Elysee on Tuesday, the first celebration of Chinese Spring Festival at the presidential palace.At the reception, which aims to co-celebrate the lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, the president greeted happy new year to around 800 Asian attendees, mainly Chinese-French and Chinese visitors living in France.Sarkozy said the relations between France and Asian countries, including China, was becoming closer and closer. BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has pledged fresh measures to fight offensive content transmitted by mobile phones and websites.China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, the country's three mobile carriers, have been required to examine the quality of their business partners, Thursday's China Daily reported Thursday.The MIIT also asked the Internet service providers to supervise the content of websites and close irregular websites.Operators of pornographic websites had been evading supervision from authorities through technical tactics including frequently switching domain names and IP addresses, the paper quoted a report on PC World's online edition as saying.The authorities will introduce a blacklist and the design of content-filtering technology to help network operators stem obscene content from reappearing.The measures aimed to protect the healthy growth of the next generation and clean the social environment, the MIIT said in statement.

BEIJING, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC), the banking regulator, said Friday it would introduce four measures to facilitate the development of rural financial institutions.The CBRC would improve supervision of rural financial institutions, strengthen risk management, encourage their adopting effective corporate governance model, and evaluate the quality of their services, said Zang Jingfan, the supervision department director of the CBRC.China approved a total of 172 new-type rural financial institutions, including 148 rural banks, 8 lending firms and 16 rural mutual cooperatives by the end of 2009, according to Zang.Outstanding loans by these institutions totaled 18.1 billion yuan, of which 36 percent went to farmers and more than 50 percent to small businesses, he said.The government has been trying to boost lending to farmers and companies in the countryside, and the CBRC announced last year a plan to set up 1,293 rural financial institutions by 2011 to boost rural development.
