(KGTV) — A police pursuit that started in the South Bay ended in North County Tuesday, with the occupants in a standoff with police.The chase began just after 1 p.m. in National City in the 2300 block of E. 8th St. with a report of a suicidal woman in a vehicle, according to National City Police. Officers arrived to find the car leaving the area with a passenger in the back seat of a Nissan sedan.Officers tried to pull the female driver over, but she refused to stop. She continued onto northbound Interstate 805 and then northbound I-15 in the carpool lanes, police said.Sky10 was live over the standoff this afternoon:CHP officers deployed a spike strip in Rancho Bernardo, which the driver hit while traveling about 70 miles per hour. After losing one tire, she slowed to about 10 mph and continued into Escondido, eventually stopping in a parking lot in the 700 block of E. Valley Parkway.Officers surrounded her vehicle but she refused communicate with police. Officers at the scene said she was seen taking pills in the vehicle and stabbing herself.The passenger exited the car shortly after 2 p.m. Soon after, the driver exited carrying a dog. The driver then handed the dog over to police and was taken into custody, ending the 10-minute standoff.She was transported to a nearby hospital. Police have not said what charges, if any, she faces. ENCINITAS, Calif., (KGTV) — Law enforcement agencies all around San Diego are working to find out if there are any more overdoses tied to mysterious blue pills that killed four people in East County this week. The pills are advertised as having a "painkiller high."An Encinitas mother, Lisa Nava was watching 10News this morning when she found out about the mysterious blue pills. She recognized them as the same pills her son took before he died three months ago.The memories of her son make her laugh. But the way he died brings Nava to tears. "Your biggest job in your life is to protect your child. I couldn't protect mine," Nava cried.Last year, her son Alex Morgan Nava had a skateboarding accident. He broke his knee, then his ankle. Doctors prescribed him oxycodone for this pain. Little did he know that would lead to an opioid addiction that would eventually kill him. On April 5, 2019, her Alex died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 24 years old. The last three months have been hell for the Nava family. But Friday morning, she saw a particular report on 10News. It was 10News anchor Virginia Cha saying, "Deputies connected some blue pills to the deaths of four people and just 24 hours."She immediately recognized the "blue pills." They were the same pills she confiscated from her son earlier this year. "I had to flush them down the toilet, and that was in January. They were those M-30's. The blue pills," Nava vividly remembered. Since then, the Nava family worked together to help Alex. They took him to the emergency room on multiple occasions. They sent him to a 30-day rehab facility. But Alex was too hooked. "He just made a wrong turn and couldn't turn around. He ran out of time," Nava said. His cause of death was 'Acute polydrug intoxication: Combined effects of acetaminophen and fentanyl-- The tiniest dose of one of the deadliest drugs."We thought he would be one of the lucky ones. But we didn't know that we were dealing with fentanyl," Nava cried.According to the Health and Human Services, around 130 people in America die of opioid overdoses every day. Alex is now one of them. But Nava says your loved one does not have to be if you are vigilant."You never know the last time you were going to see your child," Nava said. "Even the best most advantage children fall victim to these addictions. Check in on them. It's not anything to be casual about. ENCINITAS (CNS) - A man was killed after being hit by an Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train in Encinitas Saturday morning, sheriff's deputies said.It happened at about 5:30 a.m. on the tracks near the intersection of San Elijo Avenue and Cornish Drive in Encinitas, according to Deputy Christopher Campbell of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The train had been heading north at about 60-65 mph when the train engineer noticed a man running toward the tracks from the east, Campbell said. The engineer sounded the train's horn, but the man continued running toward thetracks and dove in front of the oncoming train. The engineer activated the train's brakes but wasn't able to stop in time.Authorities pronounced the man dead at the scene, Campbell said. His identity wasn't immediately released.The train involved in the crash was delayed for about three hours, according to the Pacific Surfliner Twitter page. (KGTV) - An Encinitas woman was caught off guard when an intruder squeezed through a doggy door at her home.Just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, Lexie Linberg was in her upstairs bedroom, located just off Coast Highway 101, when she got an alert from her Ring doorbell camera. A man was knocking at her door. Thinking it was a delivery, Linberg didn't answer. Moments later, she got another alert: someone was in her back yard."I heard the doggy door flap. My dog was next to me, so I knew I had a problem. I ran over to the balcony, dropped down, and saw feet going through my doggie door and I started screaming," said Linberg.Surveillance video shows same man at her door walk into her back yard. He took off his jacket before squeezing through her 10-inch-wide, 20-inch-tall doggy door. "Complete panic actually," said Linberg. Linberg's panic was quickly pushed aside by adrenaline. "I yelled a lot of profanities, told him to get out of my house," said Linberg.Linberg, who has taken self defense classes, then armed herself. She declined to tell us what that weapon was."Anger. I was mad. I wanted to get the person that was coming to hurt me," said Linberg.Next to her was Stella, her 6-year-old Poodle, trained as a guard dog."Racing down the stairs with my dog, absolutely going for him at this point," said Linberg.Linberg raced into a downstairs room, just in time to see the man's feet in the dog door. This time, he was on his way out. She gave chase down the street. He got away, but not before cameras caught a good look."He needs to be caught. It was obvious he knew what he was doing.
