"With a student loan you're paying that back regardless of whether or not you are securing a job upon graduation," said Adrienne Chuck, an Income Share Agreement Analyst with the San Diego Workforce Partnership. "With an Income Share Agreement, you only pay it back if you secure a job and get a minimum salary."No student will ever pay more than ,800, according to the program's website.According to UCSD Extension, the programs currently offered cost ,875 for Java Programming, ,775 for database management, and ,400 for user experience design. "We know that upskilling and training in particular fields with a particular skill set is something that industry is willing to pay for, and that really is the role of extension, to ensure that San Diego and California and the nation as a whole, individuals are getting trained for those skills that industry is looking for," said Josh Shapiro, assistant dean of innovation and research affairs at UCSD Extension. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — This year, December Nights organizers are opting for a tasty, food-driven event in place of the traditional two-night gathering in Balboa Park."Taste of December Nights" will feature more than 20 food trucks and vendors in Balboa Park, inviting visitors to enjoy a delicious drive-thru event this year. The event will be held from Friday, Dec. 4, through Sunday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.The event is free to attend, but visitors must remain in the vehicles and wear face coverings. Organizers say walk-ups, or people attending on bikes or scooters will not be allowed, as safety protocols amid the pandemic will be enforced.The food truck event will roll into the park's Inspiration Point parking lot, near President's Way and Park Blvd.The event will also feature some giveaways for visitors, including a commemorative Taste of December Nights tote bag filled with some festive items for the first 500 cars each day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The Padres plan to walk into the 2021 season with a World Series pitcher on the roster, trading for Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell.The deal, reported by The Athletic and ESPN, would see Snell head to San Diego in exchange for top pitching prospect Luis Pati?o, catcher Francisco Mejía, pitcher Cole Wilcox, and catcher Blake Hunt.The deal will be finalized pending a medical review, the outlets report. The addition of Snell to San Diego will help the team build a formidable starting pitching rotation heading into 2021, after adding Cleveland ace Mike Clevinger last season. Other Padres pitchers Dinelson Lamet, Chris Paddack, Zach Davies, and MacKenzie Gore also add strong arms to the mix.Snell, 28, went 4-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 11 starts in 2020, including a strong final appearance in Game 6 of the 2020 World Series allowing only two hits and one run with nine strikeouts in 5.1 innings.He went 2-2 with a 3.03 ERA in six starts during the 2020 playoffs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of SDG&E customers were left in the dark in Central San Diego, as an power outage hit late Wednesday.The outage affected about 5,800 customers in the Sorrento Valley, Mira Mesa, and Scripps Ranch areas just after 5 p.m., according to SDG&E's outage map. Those still without power dropped to about 1,900 customers by about 6 p.m.It's unclear what caused the outage. Crews were assessing the issue and estimated power would be restored by 8 p.m. up to 9:30 p.m. in some areas.Other outages were also reported in the Oceanside and Poway areas around the same time as well. SDG&E estimates power to be retored to those areas around 8 p.m. as well.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 728

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department gave 10News a behind the scenes look at the specially-trained team that solves arson cases. Inside Station One is the elite and highly specialized Metro Arson Strike Team, or MAST, made up of fire investigators, police detectives, ATF, FBI and a bomb squad. The team is dedicated solely to investigate arson. To be on the specialized team, MAST training goes beyond the fire academy. “You are wearing the hat of an electrical engineer, a scientist, a fire fighter, a report writer. We wear a lot of different hats and we have to be good at it,” said Captain James Shadoan. MAST spent the day with 10News demonstrating how they perform the task of solving an arson.
