While hundreds of thousands of people tuned into the program online, others could not resist heading to Hillcrest for the annual celebration. No cars needed to be towed, and no streets needed to be blocked off Saturday. This year's San Diego Pride parade launched virtually in a quiet outdoor patio at Inside-Out restaurant in Hillcrest."Today's going to look a little different, but we're going to keep it as close to normal as possible," San Diego Pride Executive Director, Fernando Lopez, said.Organizers hoped to keep it "normal," despite trying times brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. But Pride is no stranger to the idea of "adapt and overcome.""Our parade has gone through a hurricane, our parade has gone through a bomb threat," San Diego Pride Philanthropy Director, Sarafina Scapicchio said. "We have had challenges to this event happening, and it is very important to keep our Pride traditions alive regardless of what's going on to the community."People who would normally be marching in Hillcrest submitted videos and logged on for live interviews. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ridesharing company, Lyft, is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in ride credits to immigration groups throughout the country, including one in San Diego County. The company made the donation announcement on Monday, donating 0,000, calling the campaign "America is an Idea, Not a Geography." The Minority Humanitarian Foundation in Spring Valley received roughly ,000 in ride credits. The foundation's founder, Mark Lane, says the company's donation is a game changer for his organization. Lane explains that the money previously spent on rides can now go towards other things like food, clothing and other supplies. 10News spoke to multiple Lyft drivers in San Diego who said they wouldn't mind providing rides to migrants, as long as their pay didn't change. A few Lyft users told 10News they don't agree with Lyft's donation but said they would still continue to use the service.During the month of July, Lyft is also matching donations to RAICES up to ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Sheriff's Department says it has resumed conducting pre-pandemic evictions but continues to make that decision on a case-by-case basis.The department said in a statement that it served 12 evictions in July."The priority of enforcement focused on vacant locations or locations with reports of criminal activity. When possible, deputies conducted pre-eviction interviews and offered community resources to those who may need them at the pre-eviction interview and on the day of the lockout," SDSO's statement read.Of the 12 evictions last month, one was at a commercial property and 11 were at residential properties.Of the 11 properties, six were occupied and five were abandoned, SDSO said. In four of the six properties, deputies said criminal activities had taken place at the residences.At the fifth location, deputies say they found an elderly woman who was suffering from mental illness with health concerns and living with no heat or water. She was taken to a hospital.SDSO said the court order for the sixth location was about to expire so it had to be served.Last month, San Diego City Council leaders voted to extend a rent payback period on renters who have lost income due to COVID-19 until December 30. Renters are also required to follow the rules in leases, but landlords cannot evict a tenant for nonpayment due to COVID-19. 1380
