Eight college football games scheduled this weekend have been canceled due to the spread of the coronavirus. Among them, the championship game between unbeaten Coastal Carolina and Top 25 Louisiana-Lafayette was called off.The Sun Belt Conference canceled the contest because of a positive COVID-19 test from a member of Coastal Carolina, which resulted in an entire position group being forced to quarantine in order to follow protocol.“We are very disappointed that the championship game cannot be played, but we are so proud of all of the players and staff members and their hard work during this truly challenging season," said Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill. "We will honor both teams as 2020 Sun Belt Conference Co-Champions."Coastal Carolina defeated Louisiana in October by a 30-27 margin.Of the eight college football games canceled this weekend, five include a Top 25 team.The upcoming college football weekend features several big matchups that will determine the four teams that will be invited to the College Football Playoff. (KGTV) – Two people died after being struck by an oncoming vehicle along I-8 Sunday morning.According to the California Highway Patrol, a single vehicle was involved in a crash on I-8 near El Cajon, California just before 1:30 a.m.Following the crash two good Samaritans stopped to help the man out of his vehicle.While the crash victim and one of the good Samaritans were talking on the side of the road, another vehicle failed to see both victims and struck them, according to CHP.Authorities say the investigation is ongoing but haven’t ruled out drugs or alcohol being factors in the crash. 624

Doctors at Henry Ford Health System penned an opened letter on the hospital's study of hydroxychloroquine being used to treat COVID-19.It comes just days after Dr. Anthony Fauci called the study "flawed" while testifying in front of a House subcommittee."As an early hotspot for the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen and lived its devastating effects alongside our patients and families. While feeling the same sense of urgency everyone else does to recognize a simple, single remedy for COVID-19, we need to be realistic in the time it takes to fully understand the optimal therapy or combination of therapies required of a new virus we are all trying to contain," Dr. Adnan Munkarah and Dr. Steven Kalkanis said in the letter.The study has been among a handful to show positive results of using hydroxychloroquine as a coronavirus medicine. But the FDA has recommended against using the drug outside of a hospital or clinical setting after a number of studies showed the drug was ineffective at treating coronavirus patients. On Friday, Fauci said the study, which has been touted by President Donald Trump and other Republicans, contradicts other studies that found the drug does not effectively treat COVID-19."That study is a flawed study, and I think anyone who examines it carefully is that it is not a randomized placebo-controlled trial," Fauci said. "The most well-accepted and definitive method to determine the efficacy of a treatment is a double-blind, randomized clinical trial. Dr. Michael Drake became the University of California's first Black president on Tuesday, the Board of Regents announced in a press release.Dr. Drake will replace Janet Napolitano when she steps down in August.“Dr. Drake personifies the qualities we looked for in selecting a new president: He is committed to seeing the whole student and to supporting all our students. He recognizes the incalculable value of faculty and staff to the University’s mission, and he understands the importance of the public and private partnerships that help us achieve that mission,” said John A. Pérez, chair of the UC Board of Regents in the release. “As the first person of color to serve as UC president, Dr. Drake returns to UC at an important point in the University’s journey.
