About 30,000 doses of an experimental coronavirus treatment are shipping out Tuesday.It's Regeneron's antibody cocktail that got an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) over the weekend. It’s also the same treatment President Donald Trump got last month.Patients who are diagnosed early with COVID-19 may be eligible. The goal is to keep them from getting sicker, so they don't have to go to the hospital.But the treatment still needs to be given through an IV.“The challenge is there has to be a place to administer it, so a place where you can have COVID patients in an infusion setting where they can be treated and monitored. This is not straight-forward,” said Dr. Helen Boucher, Chief of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Tufts Medical Center.Any transfusion centers administering the IV will charge for those services.“The medicine itself is paid for by the government right now under the emergency use authorization. Those other charges have to be managed and they'll be managed by insurance, Medicare or Medicaid,” said Boucher.It's unclear if patients will need to request the treatment or if doctors will choose who to prescribe it to.In trying to get it to areas that need it most, the federal government will work with states on distribution. The problem is everywhere is seeing spikes right now.“We know that at least for 2020, the supply is going to be very low, so many of us in the infectious disease community and all the health care community are concerned that this resource will be allocated in an equitable way,” said Boucher.After this initial rollout, Regeneron says it expects to have 80,000 doses ready by the end of the month, 200,000 by the first week of January, and then 300,000 by the end of that month. 1796

After the New York Police Department responded to two suspicious packages Thursday evening at the Time Warner building in New York, the department deemed the incident a "false alarm." The false alarm came following a string of explosive devices that have been sent to Democratic Party leaders across the nation."As a precaution, the NYPD is currently evaluating a pair of unattended packages at the Time Warner Center Mall, Columbus Circle in Manhattan," NYPD said on Twitter during the investigation.Parts of the Time Warner building were evacuated as police investigated. On Wednesday, the Time Warner building was evacuated for several hours after police removed a suspected explosive device sent to ex-CIA Director John Brennan in care of CNN.  776

A man in Florida called police while Collier County Sheriff's deputies were chasing him Tuesday morning.The sheriff's office report said it all started because the suspect acted suspiciously. The sheriff's deputy went up to the car and smelled a smell similar to marijuana.The deputy spotted a baggie that contained a green leafy substance. The suspect then grabbed the bag, put it in his mouth, and sped away."I need help, please," said Aric Frydberg, the man who was arrested after the 7-mile pursuit on U.S. 41. "There's a police officer chasing me," he added.Fort Myers-based WFTX obtained the 911 call. The operator tried numerous times to get Frydberg to pull over.But during the phone call, Frydberg tried to get the operator to make some calls on his behalf. The first set of calls was to his parents."Call my mom, call my mom," said Frydberg. "Please call my mom," he added while on the phone.Then he took it a step further and wanted to speak to the president.  "Donald Trump is a close friend of mine," said Frydberg. "We made a deal," he added while he was trying to convince the operator.Frydberg then changed gears and tried a different strategy.  "My mom called me and said she was in a car accident in Homestead," he said. "My flesh and blood was in a car accident and I have to stop and help you," Frydberg added.Deputies eventually got him off the road and phone.The report goes on to say the deputies searched the car and found glass pipes with burnt leafy residue on them. A woman died Saturday after falling 200 feet while rock climbing in the Cleveland National Forest, according to the Riverside Press-Enterprise.A man who was with the woman called authorities around 12:30 near the Blue Jay Campground.The rescue took hours to complete due to the lack of accessibility in the area. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.Rescue crews said both the woman and her partner were experienced hikers and brought appropriate gear with them. Details about the fall and the woman’s identity have not yet been released.The accident happened along the Orange County and Riverside County borders. 632
