(KGTV) — Chula Vista Police have made an arrest in connection with the body of a woman found in a field in August.Police said 28-year-old Vanesa Gastellu was arrested for the murder of Christina Garcia on Aug. 5. Garcia's body was discovered in a field near the 3100 block of Main Street by a passerby. Then a "thank you" bonus.Now, Kroger employees will have to be satisfied with gradual increases in wages and benefits.CEO Rodney McMullen said Thursday that Kroger will not re-instate the popular hazard-pay benefits it announced in March and continued into June.This despite continued calls by union officials to bring back the -per-hour wage boost that Kroger and other grocery chains had been paying their essential workers.Kroger held its annual meeting Thursday, an event in which McMullen usually fields questions from local reporters. This year, McMullen agreed to talk by phone, saying that the company will see some permanent changes from the global pandemic that caused food shortages, surging revenue, binge buying and changes in consumer spending habits.Kroger's local employment increased 33% to 20,000 since the pandemic began, while the company hired 100,000 people nationwide.McMullen expects Kroger’s total employment — which peaked at 560,000 — to remain above 500,000 going forward. He also expects digital sales to remain at higher levels than the company achieved prior to COVID-19.And he believes the company will benefit from a permanent shift toward eating at home.“What we’re finding is people enjoy cooking more than they thought they would — at least, that’s what they’re telling us,” McMullen said. “They especially enjoy doing it with their kids, because it gives you a reason to spend time together. If your kids are happy, you’re happy.”McMullen also foresees a permanent shift towards higher wages, even if it doesn’t come in the form of hazard pay.“We had planned on incrementally investing 0 million a year in wages,” he said. “This year, that’ll end up being 0 million, and that’s brought our average hourly rate to higher than . So, I see people push their clocks later and they're falling asleep later at night and then they're sleeping in,” said Goldstein. “And so, the subsequent day, they can't fall asleep.”“Pandemic-induced insomnia” or “COVID-somnia” she says is also being compounded by over consumption of media on laptops, cell phones and tablets.“They also allow us to bring little miniature suns into the sleep period,” said Goldstein.A recent survey from Sleep Standards found that 98% of Americans developed sleep problems post lockdown and 68% feel stress or find it hard to sleep even after the lockdown.According to pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts, between mid-February and mid-March as the outbreak began ramping up, prescriptions for sleep medications jumped nearly 15% compared to the same time last year.“We have seen an increase in prescriptions for insomnia medications. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- With cases of coronavirus continuing to spike in the United States, Southwestern College announced Tuesday that the campus will be conducting courses online for about a week as a precautionary measure.Students and campus staff are moving all in-person classes to online or distributed instruction from March 16 through the 20.The decision joins numerous other institutions throughout the country to help suppress the spread of the virus.List: Major universities suspending in-person classes amid coronavirus fears"This is a rapidly changing situation and we appreciate everyone’s patience as college leadership works to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for our students, employees and community," said SWC President Kindred Murillo said.They are also canceling "large public events at all our campuses."
