BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said Wednesday China-France ties have "opened a new page" as French President Nicolas Sarkozy pays his second state visit to China.At a joint press conference with Sarkozy in Beijing, Hu told reporters he had accepted Sarkozy's invitation to visit France "at a time convenient for both sides."Hu and Sarkozy held about 50 minutes of private talks before starting their formal, large-scope talks which Hu described as "candid, friendly and productive" and reaching "many important agreements."Sarkozy arrived in Xi’an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, Wednesday morning to begin his three-day state visit. Chinese President Hu Jintao (R) shakes hands with French President Nicolas Sarkozy during a welcome ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, April 28, 2010. Hu said China hopes to work with France to maintain high-level exchanges and dialogue and consultations on major issues of common concern.Hu also suggested both sides boost pragmatic cooperation. He said in addition to cooperation in traditional fields, the two sides should actively promote cooperation in energy saving, environmental protection, new energy, agriculture and farm produce processing, and among small and medium size businesses to seek long-term, stable and reciprocal common development.The two countries should strengthen cultural exchanges, facilitate language education, two-way travel, and dialogue between each other's media and think tanks, Hu added.He said China and France are expected to together meet local and global challenges to achieve a peaceful and stable international environment, citing reform of the international financial system, improving the global economic governance structure and coping with climate change.Hu told the press conference he and Sarkozy agreed to keep in close consultation on global issues and to conduct active cooperation to solve international and regional disputes by peaceful means.He said the Chinese side sets a high value on the role the EU play in international affairs and appreciates the constructive stance taken by the French side in promoting China-EU relations.When meeting the press, Hu noted France is the initiator of the reform of the global economic governance mechanism.Hu added China supports France's holding of next year's G20 summit.France will hold the presidency of the G20 summit this November and host the 2011 summit.Sarkozy said France is willing to work closely with China to ensure a successful summit.He said that China is a very important strategic partner of France and they both need to cooperate closely on major global issues such as pushing economic growth, and maintaining world peace.He said there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan and Tibet are both part of China. This is the policy France has been adhering to since the France-China diplomatic ties were established in 1964. There is no change in the policy.He said France is willing to work with China to further beef up cooperation and exchanges in fields including peaceful use of nuclear energy, aviation, transport, environmental protection, finance, agriculture and culture.After talks with Sarkozy, Hu said he will visit France at the invitation of Sarkozy.As a guest of Hu, Sarkozy is paying a state visit to China from April 28 to 30. He kicked off the visit in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province. He will attend the opening ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo on April 30.

BEIJING, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met here Thursday with President of Malaysian Senate Wong Foon Meng, vowing to enhance parliamentary exchanges.Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said China and Malaysia were close neighbors, and the bilateral ties had further developed since the two countries forged the strategic and cooperative partnership in 2004.The two countries had strengthened political trust, economic and trade cooperation, personnel exchanges, and coordination in international and regional affairs, he said.Malaysia is a member of the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN) and forged diplomatic ties with China in 1974."Expanding relations with Malaysia is in the interest of the two peoples and conducive to regional peace and prosperity, and will push forward the cooperation between China and the ASEAN," Wu said.He noted the NPC had maintained sound relations with the Malaysian parliament, but still closer cooperation and exchanges in different forms were needed.Wong Foon Meng voiced his hope to promote exchanges between the parliament members of the two countries.Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, also met with Wong Foon Meng Thursday afternoon.

BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- China and Denmark had forged good cooperation and friendship in the past six decades, bringing "real and tremendous" benefits to both peoples, a senior Chinese diplomat said Tuesday.Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying made the remarks in Beijing at a reception held by the Danish embassy to China celebrating the 60 years of China-Denmark diplomatic relations.Working as an interpreter and accompanying the Queen Mother of Denmark on her visit to China in the mid-1980s, Fu said nobody expected the trade volume between the two countries would grow the way it had."For many years now China has been the largest trade partner of Denmark in Asia."Even in the most remote areas of China, the Danish beer, Carlsberg, could be seen and many garment brands from Denmark were very popular among Chinese young people, she said.In 2008, China and Denmark established an all-around strategic partnership to expand bilateral relations, as evidenced by closer cooperation in clean energy technologies, research and education and growing people-to-people exchanges."On clean technology, Denmark has been a first mover. And China is certainly a fast mover. SHENZHEN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Preliminary investigation shows that factors including failed romance, unrestrained gambling could be the reasons behind suicide of a Foxconn Technology Group employee Friday, said police authorities in south China's Shenzhen City.Nan Gang, 21, climbed to the top of a factory building in Foxconn's industrial complex in Longhua Township and fell to his death at 4:37 a.m., said Huang Jianwei, a spokesman of the Bao'an Police Station, of the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau.Nan's suspected suicide was the 10th of the kind ever happening at the Foxconn's Shenzhen plant since the beginning of the year.Police said they learned from investigations that Nan Gang's parents were divorced and Nan was the only child of the family. Nan's ex-girlfriend got married this year in February, and his new girlfriend also deserted him early this month.Nan was said to be ill tempered and fond of gambling, and was thus in deep debts before his death.According to the police, not long ago, Nan had fights with his co-workers, so he employed others to beat the co-workers, but was later blackmailed by the same group of people.Nan allegedly had said he would take revenge and even showed his intent to commit suicide before he fell off the building Friday.Police have already captured the suspects for blackmailing Nan pending further investigation.Shenzhen-based Foxconn's company profile on its website says it's the world's top electronics manufacturer with more than 600,000 employees and ranked 109 among the Fortune 500 companies in 2009. BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Wednesday called for greater efforts to fulfill the energy-saving and emission reduction goals set out in the nation's 11th Five Year Plan.According to the plan laid out in 2006, China will cut its per unit GDP energy consumption by 20 percent compared with 2005 levels by the end of 2010.Relevant departments must work harder to help enterprises close down old and polluting production facilities, he said at a State Council meeting.The departments must also suspend approval of new projects by enterprises failing to eliminate backward production capacity, he added.He also stressed efforts to curb the expansion of high energy-consuming industry, and emphasized strict control of exports of goods produced in an energy-inefficient way.Wen said energy-saving and emission reduction are priorities for the construction and transportation industries.Public institutions nationwide are expected to lower their energy consumption by 5 percent year on year in 2010, he added.More energy-conservation and emission-reduction publicity campaigns should be organized to promote the development of "green" consumption, he said.
