The Kansas City Chiefs announced Monday that star quarterback Patrick Mahomes signed a 10-year contract extension, which reportedly will be the richest contract in sports history.ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the new early Monday afternoon, citing league sources. The Chiefs confirmed the 10-year extension, which is in addition to the two years remaining on his current rookie contract, via social media several hours later. Here to stay. . .! :alarm_clock::alarm_clock: pic.twitter.com/mfwMga3Kl0— Patrick Mahomes II (@PatrickMahomes) July 6, 2020 Clearly, Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, who watched the Chiefs wander the NFL wildness for decades unable to draft and develop a franchise QB, and General Manager Brett Veach weren't messing around.“This is a significant moment for our franchise and for the Chiefs Kingdom,” Hunt said in a statement from the team. “Since he joined the Chiefs just a few years ago, Patrick has developed into one of the most prolific athletes in all of sports. With his dynamic play and infectious personality, he is one of the most recognized and beloved figures to put on the Chiefs uniform. He’s an extraordinary leader and a credit to the Kansas City community, and I’m delighted that he will be a member of the Chiefs for many years to come.”Veach said the Mahomes extension "has been a priority for us for quite a while now" and thanked his agents, Chris Cabott and Leigh Steinberg, "for their efforts and patience" along with his own staff for getting the deal done."I’ve said from the beginning that Patrick is one of the most impressive players I’ve ever scouted, but I don’t think anyone could have envisioned everything he’s brought to our football team and community," Veach said in a statement from the team. "His abilities are so rare, and to couple that with an incredible personality is outstanding. We’re going to continue to do everything we can to surround him with talent, and this deal provides us more flexibility to do that. He’s obviously an integral part to our success and we’re thrilled he’s going to be the quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs for a long time."It didn't take much convincing to get coach Andy Reid, who cemented a Hall of Fame legacy by guiding the Mahomes-led Chiefs to the Super Bowl LIV title, on board with keeping Mahomes around as long as possible.“I’ve had the privilege of coaching a lot of incredible athletes and special people in my career, and Patrick is without question on that list of players.” Reid said in a statement. “The best part is he’s still early in his career. He’s a natural leader and always grinding, whether that’s on the field, in the weight room or watching film, he wants to be the best. He’s a competitor and his teammates feed off his energy. He makes us all better as an organization and we are blessed he’s going to be our quarterback for years to come.”Mahomes' decade-long extension, which matches the longest contract extension in league history and keeps the 24-year-old Mahomes with the Chiefs through the 2031 season. Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes have reached agreement on a 10-year -- 10-year! -- contract extension that ties him to Kansas City through the 2031 season, league sources tell ESPN.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 6, 2020 Exact terms of the deal were not announced Monday, but Schefter later said the deal would be worth 0 million overall with 0 million guaranteed for injury. No other NFL player is currently signed beyond the 2026 season. Compensation update: Patrick Mahomes’ 10-year extension is worth 0 million, sources tell ESPN.The injury guarantee is 0 million, per source. The contract does not contain language that ties its value to a percentage of the salary cap.Richest deal in sports’ history.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 6, 2020 The Chiefs traded up in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft to pick Mahomes at No. 10 overall. He spent his rookie season learning the offense and the professional ropes under Alex Smith's tutelage, making one start in the regular-season finale at Denver that season.During his first season as Kansas City's starting quarterback after Smith was traded, Mahomes led to the Chiefs to the top seed during the regular season and the AFC Championship Game, the first one ever hosted at Arrowhead Stadium. He also was selected as the 2018 NFL MVP.After bouncing back from a dislocated knee early in 2019, Mahomes led the Chiefs to the franchise's second Super Bowl title in February 2020, picking up Super Bowl MVP honors along the way.Mahomes' 10-year extension ties an NFL record for the longest contract with two other former star quarterbacks.New England's Drew Bledsoe signed a 10-year, 3-million extension in March 2001, though he was injured in the second game of the 2001 season and replaced by Tom Brady in the Patriots' lineup.Atlanta signed quarterback Michael Vick to a 10-year deal worth 0 million in January 2005, but he was out of the league two years into the contract after pleading guilty to federal charges related to a dog-fighting ring. The 10-year extension is the richest in sports history. Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout currently boasts the largest contract in sports history, a 12-year deal worth 6.5 million signed last year. With the two existing years on the deal, Mahomes will be owed 5 million during the next 12 years, Patrick Mahomes had two years and .6 million left on his existing deal -- .8M this year, .8M in 2021.His 10-year extension is worth over 0M, though it's still uncertain how much over.So the lowest his 12 year-deal could be worth is 7.6 million. But will be more.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 6, 2020 Mahomes' deal will easily surpass current Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan's 0-million contract, a five-year deal signed two years ago, for the richest in terms of total value in NFL history by more than triple the amount. The most-lucrative NFL contract in terms of annual value is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson's four-year deal, which he signed last year and pays him an average of million per season.Mahomes' extension pays him million per season. KSHB's Sam Hartle and Tod Palmer first reported this story. 6696

An elaborate table is set, and Argentinian tango music fills the room in Mirta Rinaldi’s apartment in NYC’s Queens. Her guests: five strangers, who came together to learn about the culture of Rinaldi’s home country of Argentina. “Cooking has been my passion all my life, so teaching this from my home and sharing my culture, it's a gift,” Rinaldi says.Rinaldi is just one of a network of 14 instructors who are part of the League of Kitchens, a group of immigrants from around the world who welcome strangers inside their homes. The experience allows those from other countries to impart their culture and family recipes onto eager students, regardless of their cooking ability.Rinaldi believes that when people learn about someone’s culture, they learn to respect each other's differences. That’s why she opens up her home to strangers every Sunday. “I love it,” says Rinaldi, smiling. Learn more about the League of Kitchens 942

Millions in Northern California saw apocalyptic orange skies this week as massive wildfires burn through the region.Phoenix native Kristen Marin and her family live 2.5 hours north of San Francisco in Mendocino County, while the Oak Fire is burning near them."It feels a little like doomsday," said Marin. "It felt like it was night all during the day time. The air quality was awful. The crickets were chirping. The floodlights were on, thinking it was dark. Everything is covered in ash. It smells like smoke. You'd think that you were in a fireplace," said Marin. On Thursday, the Oak Fire was 25% contained.Luckily, Marin's family hasn't been told to evacuate."You're just on notice, all the time you're wondering if it's going to be your community or your address that pops up on the alert," said Marin.According to the California Department of Fires and Forestry Protection, there are about 14,000 firefighters on the line of 29 major wildfires burning across the state.Tait Mitton is leading a team of four from the Arizona Fire and Medical Authority. They're on a two-week mission northeast of Fresno working night shifts on the Creek Fire in the Sierra National Forest."Our responsibility is life safety. Making sure everyone is evacuated from the area, also protecting structures, houses, cabins," said Mitton. The Creek Fire has burned more than 175,000 acres and destroyed hundreds of homes and is 0% contained."Right now California---the firefighters over here --they're working really hard, they're overtaxed right now, we're going to do everything we can to help and help the community," said Mitton.Mitton said compared to desert fires, the vegetation in the Sierra National Forest makes it harder to contain the flames since there are more trees than burn hotter for longer. Jumping back into the dating scene after 15 years of marriage was daunting for Lori. "I've done it all. I've done eharmony, Match.com and all the apps," she says. But nothing worked. "I was trying too hard to be someone I wasn't,” Lori says. She decided to enlist the help of relationship expert Hilary Silver. "They just don't know what they are doing; they don't know how to date, present themselves,” Silver says of older adults getting back into the dating game. “They don't know the new rules or dating in the modern world." Silver says Lori’s problem was how she was presenting herself, because it was a turn off.Silver describes the top three personality turn-offs.There's the pleaser. Silver says that’s the category Lori falls in. She says pleasers do anything and everything to be liked. There are the pushers. They're more guarded and have a chip on their shoulder, which causes them to push people away. Then, there are the perfectionists, who feel they need to be perfect to be loved. Lori had to learn how to be herself, to reconnect with the things that make her happy, Silver says. Her hard work payed off. Lori went on a blind date and found a connection. 1192

"I thought he was crazy," said Dave Egeler about what his identical twin told him he was going to do to raise ,000 to help two charities dedicated to helping dogs rescued from neglect, dogfighting and other forms of cruelty. This Saturday, Dan Egeler, a retired lawyer and cancer survivor, is planning to run four full marathons in 24 hours. Egeler's goal is to get a lot of people to donate a little bit or a lot to help him get to his goal of ,000. The money will be shared between Waggin' Tails Dog Rescue and Bark Nation which helps dogs recover from the abuse they've been subjected to in dogfighting. Both charities are nonprofit organizations that are driven by volunteers who are dedicated to helping the dogs recover from any physical and mental injuries they've suffered. "Anyone who owns a dog knows they are unconditional in their love," Egeler said. "They provide a lot of joy and excitement in the family and they're just so great to have around so we love dogs."And everyone will be able to keep up with Egeler's progress that will begin Saturday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon because he'll be wearing a tracker.Egeler will start in Dexter and run through parts of western Washtenaw county and on a track at night. He'll end his marathons Sunday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon in Dexter.Click here to find out more about the race, the charities, and where to make a donation. "Obviously it's a strong stress on the body and I plan for that, but I gotta do this and I've got to complete four marathons in 24 hours," Egeler said. "And that's gonna be more of a mental challenge than a physical challenge." This story originally reported by Kimberly Craig on wxyz.com. 1709
