LAS VEGAS — Neighbors in the southwest part of Las Vegas are fed up over the wild scenes playing out in their area which have included flame throwers, rocket launchers, strippers and buses full of people as the Strip's night and day clubs remain closed. For weeks, Las Vegas police have been dealing with a sharp rise in complaints regarding "party houses," some of which have been the scenes for shootings and murders.Neighbors near one home on Sunset Road and Jones Boulevard say they are living next to a nightmare."It's a party going madhouse out here," Tony Grant said.Grant and his wife Nanette, who is battling breast cancer, say the for past six months, people have been arriving to their neighborhood by bus, car and rideshares.Videos shows dozens, if not hundreds, of people at the home, which at times includes laser light shows, loud music and nearly-naked women.Online, the venue is billed as a day and nightclub available for gatherings and parties for ,500 a day."There's fire-based entertainment, including flamethrowers, and rocket launchers that are being set off within obviously 10- to 15-feet of 50-foot pine trees and homes," Hadas Grant said.Online records show Las Vegas police have taken more than a half dozen reports for "disturbing the peace" in the 5800 block of Patrick Lane since April 2020.Records obtained by Clark County show authorities have placed administrative actions on the home, and fines have totaled 0.The Grants say the gatherings have continued."On the day the citation was placed on the door, that Tuesday night was one of the largest gatherings or events that they've ever had, they're laughing in the face of code enforcement," Tony Grant said.Interview requests to the group promoting the gatherings were not returned. But the home and the California-based owner are all over the county's radar with an active investigation, according to authorities."The girls that we see walking in and out, a lot of them are dressed in a G string and a top," Nanette Grant said. The Grants are fed up and fear it may only be a matter of time before one of the parties get really out of control, and someone gets hurt.Las Vegas police recently announced that at least 15 shootings and three other homicides at short-term rentals have occurred during recent months. This story was originally published by Joe Bartels on KTNV in Las Vegas. 2381

Last fall, Amazon launched a new service called Amazon Key, which allows customers to receive deliveries inside their home. Amazon is now taking that one step further and delivering packages inside your car.Alyssa Bronikowski with Amazon says, “What’s convenient about it is that you can now receive deliveries wherever you are.”Amazon says it’s simple to use. You need to download the Amazon Key app, and link your car before you begin shopping. There is one catch: You will need a 2015 or newer GM or Volvo vehicle with active OnStar or Volvo On Call account. These vehicles allow you to unlock your car wherever you are right before the driver arrives and lock it directly after the package is delivered. With the first version of Amazon Key, Amazon tried to eliminate porch poaching. But, this has many people wondering if the new version will cause more vehicle break-ins. Amazon said they will place all packages in the trunk of the car or hide it under a seat.If your package does get stolen, the same rules apply as getting your delivery poached off your porch. If you feel like Amazon has way too much access into our lives; Amazon says, if customers want convenience, this is what convenience looks like. 1238

LA MESA (KGTV) -- It was a frustrating flight for one mother in La Mesa, who said an airline would not allow her to sit next to her toddler without forking over extra cash.Aliss, who declined to use her last name, said she chose seats together when she booked her ticket through a third-party website. Aliss and her son, Kai, were travelling from Providence, Rhode Island back to San Diego with a layover in Minneapolis. When she got to the airport in Providence, her seat on her Sun Country Airlines flight was not next to her child.“I would have never booked a flight where we couldn’t sit together,” Aliss said. She said her options were limited and that the representative with the airline said she could charge her a fee.“I can’t pay that. What else can we do? And she said, well for I can move you guys in a row front and back of each other. I said that doesn’t help my problem. He’s still not sitting next to me,” Aliss said. She said she told the airline representative not to charge her the money, but she was charged anyway. She said she did not get help from anyone with the airline, including the flight attendant. “She said no, you’re on your own. You’ll just have to argue with people,” Aliss said. Fortunately, a grandmother ended up giving up her seat so Aliss could sit with Kai. That was only the beginning of her problems. From Minneapolis to San Diego, Aliss’ flight was delayed. At first, it was only three hours.“No big deal,” she said. She tried keeping Kai entertained and saw many other parents in a similar situation. The three hour delay became much longer with passengers unclear on when they were going to leave. “It was confusing, frustrating,” Aliss said. She said they were promised 0 vouchers for the long delay. Aliss said their 3:10 p.m. flight finally left around 12:30 a.m. Team 10 contacted Sun Country Airlines, who apologized for what happened. In a statement, a spokesperson told Team 10: “This was not the level of service we aim to provide, as it is our policy that children always be seated with an adult on the itinerary at no cost. We have followed up with our airport staff on this error to ensure our policy is being carried out correctly. We have issued a full refund to the passenger for the fees incurred at the counter related to the seat assignment. We were also able to ensure two seats were assigned next to one another on her return flight. Our team has resent the 0 vouchers from the flight delay to the email we have on file, and we are adding an additional 0 voucher for the inconvenience.”Aliss said it was a lesson for her to be prepared and to, “be wise with who you spend your money with.” A few years ago, Congress passed the Families Flying Together act, which was supposed to keep parents and children together on planes. However, the Department of Transportation has yet to implement it.It's unclear if or when they will do so. Team 10 contacted the DOT’s media relations, but has yet to hear back. 2990

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Scientists at Stemson Therapeutics say they've found a way to create new hair cells that could become a cure for baldness."We're hoping this will be the breakthrough," says Chief Scientific Officer Alexey Terskikh. For a few years, they've been working on a two-part process that turns stem cells into hair follicles. It then implants the follicle cells into the scalp to grow new hair."We have the capability to generate brand new hair follicles," says Stemson CEO Geoff Hamilton.Using iPSC's, stem cells derived from a person's blood or existing cells, Terskikh's team can direct them to become folliculogenic cells, the building blocks of hair. They then put the cells into a microscopic scaffold-like mold made on a 3D printer. The molds are about 1/5 the size of a single strand of hair.RELATED: Here are some options if you start going baldThe scaffolds help keep the cells intact, while also telling the hair which direction to grow. That will help avoid in-grown hair or hair that grows in unnatural ways."Imagine transplanting thousands, or tens of thousands of those into a scalp," says Hamilton.Their technique is different from current hair restoration therapy because it grows new hair cells. Existing methods like Rogaine or Propecia try to revive dead cells or transplant existing cells from one area of the body to another."We're inventing as we go," says Hamilton. "We're making up the path ahead of us as we go."Eventually, they say the cost of the new cells will be similar to the cost of hair transplant surgery now, which can run upwards of ,000.In addition to being a cosmetic solution for people who have gone bald naturally, Hamilton says this could help people who have lost hair due to chemotherapy treatment or from severe burns or injuries. So far, testing has proven successful in mice. Human testing is still years away as the company works towards FDA approval.Stemson's lab is part of the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. 2007

LAKE CHARLES, La. — The holiday decorations are up around Lake Charles. Yet, the most wonderful time of the year just simply isn’t right now for many there, like Renee LeBleu–Booth. For a decade, she and her husband lived in their home, which is now missing a roof and beset by toxic mold because of Hurricane Laura.“It was beautiful. I loved it,” LeBleu-Booth reminisced. “It's depressing, but we're thankful we got a roof over our head.”Their temporary new home is an RV parked on their front lawn. It’s been a tough year for them, with her husband also battling leukemia, as they tried to save money for his treatment.“We cut back on everything,” she said. That included dropping their homeowner’s insurance, a crucial decision that’s now left them with no way to pay for repairs. They’re not alone. Many are having trouble recovering from the one-two punch of Hurricanes Laura and Delta. About 46 percent of the people who live in the affected areas live paycheck to paycheck.Getting government aid can be a long process and nonprofits are trying to fill in the gaps.“We've moved into the long-term recovery phase,” said Denise Durel, with the United Way of Southwest Louisiana. “So, now, we're actually going to be putting homes back together of low-income people who don't have insurance on their homes or their property.”However, she says a more permanent recovery is going to require many helping hands.“We need to continue to let, you know, the rest of the country remember that we're here and we've got this huge challenge ahead of us still,” Durel said. “We're strong people and we take care of each other. But we just need help right now. We really just need help.”Back at Renee LeBleu-Booth’s home, this longtime United Way volunteer now finds herself getting their help.“It’s hard,” she said, adding of those at United Way, “The people were amazing.”She said they are helping her restore her faith that they’ll find a way through.“It's going to get better,” she said.Hurricanes Laura and Delta left more than billion in damages. So far, more than 236,000 insurance claims have been made in Louisiana. A federal judge recently approved a plan to deal with thousands of lawsuits expected to be filed by homeowners against insurers over disputes about damage assessments. 2291
