CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. – A sheriff’s office in Georgia says it has fired a deputy who was caught on video repeatedly punching a Black man during a traffic stop.The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday the deputy, who is white, was fired for using excessive force on Roderwick Walker.The office did not identify the deputy but added that a criminal investigation has been turned over to the district attorney’s office.According to his attorney, 26-year-old Walker was arrested and beaten after deputies pulled over the vehicle he was riding in Friday with his girlfriend, their 5-month-old child and his stepson for an alleged broken taillight and asked for his identification.Videos of Walker’s arrest quickly surfaced on social media, which appear to show Walker pinned on the ground while officers are on top of him and one deputy punching him.In one video, obtained by WGCL, one of the deputies is heard saying “he bit my hand” and Walker is heard saying “I’m about to die.” You can also hear those witnessing the incident yelling for the officers to stop.The sheriff’s office says Walker has received medical treatment and is being monitored by a doctor at a jail hospital. Treatment included x-rays of the man’s head and no fractures were detected, according to the sheriff’s office.Sunday, the Georgia NAACP called for the charges against Walker to be dropped, so he could be immediately released.Authorities say the sheriff ordered a signature bond courtesy for Walker, but his bond was denied, because he has as a felony probation warrant out of Fulton County for cruelty to children, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and a failure to appear warrant out of Hapeville. 1701

Colorado voters rejected a ballot measure that, if passed, would have banned abortions in the state after the 22nd week of a woman’s pregnancy unless her life is at risk and potentially punished doctors who performed them.ABC News called the race around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, with 60% of Coloradans voting against Proposition 115’s passage, compared to 40% who voted in favor of the measure, with 79% of precincts reporting.Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains Action Fund President and CEO Vicki Cowart released a statement Tuesday evening praising Coloradans’ decision."Today, we can proudly confirm that Colorado remains a safe haven for access to the full spectrum of sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion care. Once again, Colorado voters confirmed what we have always known: that health care decisions belong between a patient and their health care provider, without political interference,” Cowart said.The rejection of Proposition 115 means abortions will continue to be legal at any time during a woman’s pregnancy in Colorado, with a restriction which specifies that the parents or guardians of a minor seeking an abortion must receive written notification about the procedure at least 48 hours in advance.If Proposition 115 had passed, a doctor who broke the rule and performed an abortion outside of 22 weeks would have been guilty of a class 1 misdemeanor, which would have been punishable by a fine.Physicians who performed abortions outside of the 22-week window would have faced disciplinary action by the state medical board and a suspension of their license of at least three years under the proposal. Women who received an abortion would not have been penalized had Proposition 115 passed.The number of abortions performed in the state after 22 weeks is hard to come by. The Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment (CDPHE) believes the number is between 20 to 300 per year. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - Three Coronado restaurants were closed for cleaning on Tuesday after employees tested positive for the coronavirus. One of the restaurants, The Henry, is facing backlash over accusations that it was not transparent with its patrons.On Facebook, The Henry posted the following message on Monday night.“Coronado neighbors,We apologize for not being more transparent with you about our first COVID positive case last week. Even though we messed up our communication, please know that we took all the right actions to make sure our guests, our employees and our restaurant space were as safe as possible before we re-opened.We went through our entire protocol for a COVID exposure the night after we became aware one of our employees was COVID positive. This includes third-party sanitation of the restaurant, contacting all employees before they returned to work to make sure we knew who had CDC defined exposure to the COVID employee and making sure all employees had access to testing at our cost, regardless of exposure. We got lucky that we were able to get this done so quickly. That has not always been the case. In another restaurant out-of-state, we had to close a restaurant for nearly a week as we waited for the sanitation company and sufficient staff to safely reopen. No one in our industry is happy about the fact we are all getting more experienced and better at responding to COVID exposures.Some of you have asked us why we did not notify the San Diego Health Department about the COVID positive employee. We know the employee's health care provider has notified the Health Department and that we, as employers, are not required to do so. But because of your question today and after calling the San Diego Health Department who encouraged voluntary notification, the Henry is committing to do so. COVINGTON, Ky. — Holy Cross High School's graduating valedictorian and student council president learned hours before Friday night's graduation that they would not be allowed to deliver their planned — and, they thought, pre-approved — speeches at the ceremony.They found a pair of megaphones and delivered them outside. "The young people will win," valedictorian Christian Bales said, "because we're finished being complacent."The 18-year-old from Cold Spring, Kentucky had hoped to celebrate the rising tide of American youth advocacy across the political spectrum, mentioning both the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students who have campaigned for reformed gun laws and his own classmates who had attended the March for Life in January, and encourage his classmates to continue striving to make their communities better."We are dynamic, we are intelligent, we have a voice, and we're capable of using it in all communities," he said in his speech. "We must take what we've learned in this community and apply it to the world we are about to encounter."Bales' mother, Gillian Marksberry, said Bales and student council president Katherine Frantz had believed their speeches were approved before an "out-of-the-blue" Friday morning call from Principal Mike Holtz to both their families. Holtz held an "emergency meeting" that ended in a declaration the diocese did not feel the two speeches were appropriate for the ceremony, Marksberry said.Holtz related to her that the diocese characterized them as "aggressive, angry, confrontational" and too personal for the graduation stage. "I can send you a copy of my speech," Bales wrote in a Twitter message. "That's not what this is about. He's earned the right to have a voice."Bishop Roger Foys, who oversees the Diocese of Covington and who typically distributes awards at Catholic schools' graduations, did not attend the ceremony.
