SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former La Jolla restaurant owner convicted of raping multiple women was sentenced on Tuesday to 40 years in prison. On a live stream to the courtroom while sitting in jail, Daniel Dorado was read his term after several women gave their victim impact statements. The former owner of Voce Del Mare was found guilty last December on 20 counts related to rape and sexual assault of four victims who were unconscious and intoxicated. ABC10 News broke the story two years ago when he was charged with drugging and raping women, sometimes at his restaurant.Fighting back tears on Tuesday, one victim described her trauma from meeting Dorado after answering an ad on Craigslist for a hostess position. "Years after the assault, I still don't feel safe going to job interviews in-person, alone. I don't feel safe to do outdoor activities alone. I can't tolerate being around men. Not even family," she stated."He is an evil individual," said another woman who added, "I simply went on a date with him and ended up getting sexually assaulted by him for hours in a hotel room where I was unconscious."One woman who was named as a victim defended Dorado on Tuesday and said that she was even friends with him. She accused detectives of manipulating her to testify against her will and appear confused about a possible assault. She told the judge, "Your honor, Mr. Dorado never raped me. I never went to the police. I never filed a police report. In fact, I declined a restraining order against Mr. Dorado and I told detectives that I did not want to press charges."Dorado addressed the courtroom and denied any wrongdoing. He added, "I have spoken the truth since the very first day that this all began. I did not skip town. I did not make faces to the accusers. I am still in shock by what has happened." He maintains his innocence and has said that every sexual encounter was consensual."The total term of imprisonment is 40 years. I don't mind saying [that] I believe this is the maximum I can impose under the law," the judge told the courtroom. Dorado was also ordered to pay ,000 in restitution.ABC10 News reached out to the DA's Office for a response regarding the woman who defended Dorado during the hearing. The DA's Office sent the following statement."Today’s comments in open court by the judge, the victims and our prosecutor along with the evidence presented at trial, all support the just result and appropriate sentence in this case." 2469

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — About an hour east of San Diego is a town with few people and a lot of history."In 1880 you'd be getting run over by wagons sitting right here in this little route," Larry Johnson, president of the Mountain Empire Historical Society, says standing on a road in Campo. "I initially came here in 1956."And like many others they come here for a reason.Robert Marks, who owns East County Lumber & Ranch Supply, learned Campo was for sale last week. "We found out the owner was selling all 3 parcels, maybe he won it in a card game!" Marks jokes. While we can't verify that, the current owner of Campo is a Las Vegas investor. He's looking to sell but hasn't named a price. The sale encompasses 28 residential units and seven commercial properties. About 100 to 150 people live in the listing area and about 3,000 are scattered across the whole town. Listing agent Conor Brennan with Marcus & Millichap says interested parties include rehabbers, developers, horse breeders, and movie producers."My reaction is if he sells it I hope we get someone who wants to put something in this community," Marks says."Personally I don't want big housing developments, I'm not for that," Johnson adds. But it wasn't too long ago the town was looking for another buyer in 1999. Since then, things have largely remained the same."We like it country, we like to have a few new people join us and keep population increasing a little," Johnson says. But residents of Campo want potential buyers to know this is: "It's awesome. I love it out here," Marks said. 1568

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Even the MCAS Miramar Airshow, one the county's largest single day events, couldn't escape the impact of COVID-19.As the fight with the pandemic continues resulting in the cancellation of numerous activities and events in San Diego, producers of the MCAS Miramar Airshow set out to bring fans the exciting visuals from everyone's favorite military and civilian performers. The Marine Corps Community Services and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar created a special one-hour show titled, "2020 Vision – a Miramar Airshow production."The show features interviews with local civilian and military leaders, and performers who share their experiences about participating in the event. "We capture our airshow tradition's exciting spirit with new storytelling that brings you a side of these aviators that you would otherwise not get at the full airshow," said Capt. Matthew 'Red Bull' Gregory, Director of Communication at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.Cameras will take viewers behind the scenes and up in the air to capture the drama that happens over the skies of San Diego."It is a unique video for a unique time," he said. The show will also bring viewers up close to the event's biggest draw, the Marine Air Ground Task Force Demonstration, or MAGTF, a combined cooperation between tanks and infantry and aviation assets."We have an epic show bringing back some of your favorites – Jon Melby, Vicki Benzing, Aaron Fitzgerald, and the Red Bull Helo - as well as highlighting what makes Marine aviation some of the best in the world," said Gregory. It's only the third time the show has had to shut down since the Marine Corp. took over the base in 1997.The show will be broadcast Saturday, October 17 at 11 A.M. on the ABC 10News Facebook page, on 10News.com and apps, and the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Facebook page. 1853

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A crucial part of the fight to end food insecurity depends on community donations. And the most significant impact often comes from a group of strangers that come together to donate, volunteer, and distribute. “I want to say the excess food we have is maybe 75 pounds to 100 pounds every couple of weeks,” said Adam Sapinoso. Sapinoso works for National Food Group, a wholesale food service distributor in San Diego. From time to time, his inventory exceeds his client's needs leaving him with additional food that he doesn’t need. That food is often tossed out. “It was just hard seeing that much food being thrown away, especially when you’re the one physically throwing it in the dumpster,” said Sapinoso. Looking for a solution, he turned to Feeding San Diego’s app called Meal Connect. This app connects restaurants and companies with Feeding San Diego volunteers. Those volunteers pick up excess food from companies and restaurants when it is most convenient for the company. Donate now to Month of a Million MealsThe volunteer then heads to one of Feeding San Diego’s distribution locations to drop off the donations. The food is then unpacked and sorted out and distributed to the community. One of those sites is Wesley Community Services Center in City Heights.“When we started, this program was upstairs with coffee and donuts. Now, eight years later, we are doing a million pounds a year, 1500 meals a month, and it’s just growing. 1470

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Carmel Valley family who moved from Parkland, Florida is upset after learning two Parkland victims died of apparent suicides.Erin George says these suicides in her hometown are re-opening old wounds. It has her wondering how many more lives will be lost due to the senseless tragedy. She said, “I was numb. I just thought when does the loss of life stop from this.”Erin’s daughter Lauren lost a friend in the shootings. She worries about the emotional impact the shootings will have on her daughter.Suicide prevention experts say the best thing you can do is look for warning signs and talk to your teenagers. Simply ask them if they have thought about suicide. They say the best time to talk about it is when they are not depressed. Warning signs include a drastic change in behavior or withdrawing. If you or someone you know is contemplating suicide, call the San Diego Crisis Line at 1-888-724-7240. You can also call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255. 1010
