In the past five months, participants from 246 countries and international organizations have gathered by the Huangpu River to attend the Expo. BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Marine Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) will conduct a joint drill with their counterpart of Thailand, China's Ministry of National Defense said Wednesday.Called "Blue Assault-2010," the joint drill will take place in Sattahip, Thailand, from Oct. 26 to Nov. 14, a ministry statement said.The joint training exercise will be the first for the PLA marines, according to the statement.The joint drill will focus on anti-terrorism. It will also aim at helping marines from Thailand and China learn from each other, enhance mutual understanding, step up friendly exchange and cooperation in a bid to improve the capabilities of both countries' marine corps to handle new challenges and threats together.

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese man convicted of murdering 11 people including three police officers over five years were executed Tuesday in Foshan City, south China's Guangdong Province, a local court said.Listed as one of the top wanted suspects, Cheng Ruilong, 37, was arrested in 2005 and was sentenced to death for murder, robbery and rape by Foshan Municipal Intermediate People's Court in February 2010. He was found to have murdered 11 people in a string of violence between May 1996 and January 2005.Cheng, a Guangdong native, was originally convicted of murdering 13 but the court dropped the number of victims in July's hearing of Cheng's appeal as bodies of a woman and her daughter allegedly killed by Cheng were never found.He lost the appeal. His execution had been approved by the Supreme People's Court, officials with Foshan intermediate court said.

BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Wu Bangguo has highlighted a nationwide inspection of enforcement of the country's Law on Energy-saving to build a resource-efficient and environment-friendly society.Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks on Tuesday in an instruction to the committee's inspection.Energy-saving was a pressing and tough issue that involved all industries and occupations, and the inspection should push Chinese companies and corporations to reduce their energy consumption in production and operation, Wu said.The inspection would also promote implementation on the NPC Standing Committee's resolution to deal with climate change and other related Chinese laws and regulations, Wu said.
