The House Intelligence Committee on Saturday released a Democratic memo in redacted form that seeks to undercut Republican claims of FBI surveillance abuses.The committee made the Democratic memo public after the White House signed off following negotiations between the FBI and the committee's top Democrat, Rep. The head of the US Forest Service has resigned amid reports that the agency was looking into misconduct allegations against him."Many of you have seen the news reports which included the stories from women who told of their experiences with sexual harassment in the Forest Service. I admire their courage," Tony Tooke wrote in an email to employees.The email later adds, "In some of these news reports, you may have seen references to my own behavior in the past. This naturally raised questions about my record and prompted an investigation, which I requested and fully support, and with which I have cooperated."Tooke added: "I have been forthright during the review, but I cannot combat every inaccuracy that is reported in the news media. What I can control, however, are decisions I make today and the choice of a path for the future that is best for our employees, the Forest Service and the US Department of Agriculture. I must also think about what is best for my family. Therefore, I have decided that what is needed right now is for me to step down as Forest Service Chief and make way for a new leader that can ensure future success for all employees and the agency."PBS NewsHour, which recently published an investigation detailing sexual harassment at the Forest Service, first reported the news of his resignation Wednesday.The investigation into misconduct at the agency as a whole comes as the nation is facing a reckoning over sexual assault and harassment in the workplace.Congress has previously looked into harassment within the ranks of the US Department of Agriculture, of which the Forest Service is a part.Tooke's time as Forest Service chief began only recently, under President Donald Trump's tenure. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue tapped Tooke to lead the agency in August 2017, but according to a news release from the time of the announcement, Tooke had worked for the Forest Service since he was a teenager.Perdue accepted Tooke's resignation Wednesday."Forest Service Chief Tony Tooke today tendered his resignation, which I accepted," Perdue wrote in a statement. "The Forest Service is filled with dedicated employees from across this nation who devote their lives to promoting healthy and productive forests for the benefit of taxpayers and our environment. The name change for Boy Scouts of America is creating a buzz online as people react the organization's recent move to become more inclusive.They will begin calling the program for ages 11 to 17 "Scouts BSA."It was a historic decision for Boy Scouts of America as they take the next step towards allowing females into all their programs with their focus on bringing families together in one spot. It's all a part of the new "Scout Me In"?recruitment campaign, uniting girls and boys of the same family with one organization."Having Johnny in Scouts and Sally in soccer or some other activities — if they can go and do things together as a family unit, that's what families are looking for from the research we have," says Chris Mehaffey, scout executive and CEO of the Mid-America Council. And so the move was made today, switching the Boy Scouts program to Scouts BSA with the hopes that the new name will make girls feel comfortable joining the program geared towards 11-18 year olds.Still Mehaffey believes the name switch won't make a huge difference in girls joining the scouts. "I think those that are interested in our program will come anyway, this just shows that we are being more inclusive to what demographics we'll be serving."As for the Girl Scouts, they're remaining focused on creating programs for girls, and only girls. "So it's not changing the way we deliver our mission and programs. We're going to continue to do what girls asked us to do and provide for their changing needs," says Melissa Breazile, marketing director of Girl Scouts of Nebraska.And if girls desire, Mehaffey says girls can choose to join both organizations. "You don't have to choose. Girl Scouts meet on different nights, Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA meet on different nights, if you're interested in both if parents will allow, do both."Now this switch only affects the Boy Scout program. Ranks like Cub Scouts and Eagle Scouts, will keep their names.While the Cub Scouts have already began to bring in girls, the organization plans to fully bring them in by February of 2019. 2115

The news of dogs?left tied up, abandoned by owners in Palm Beach County to fend for themselves during Hurricane Irma, disturbed many of you, and us.The question .. will Palm Beach County hold those pet owners accountable?  It's not something the animals asked for, to be abandoned by their families, for a storm. "Absolutely unacceptable. People need to be responsible pet owners in this community," says State Attorney Dave Aronberg."The animals should be a valued part of your family and they should be a part of your plan," says Animal Care and Control Capt. Dave Walesky. More than 50 dogs and 15 cats were surrendered to Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. Around 38 other dogs, left to fend for themselves, mostly in the Glades area.  "Many of them were loose inside fenced yards, some were loose in the community where they just got turned loose or some were tied and left in small cages," says Walesky. "One of the dogs was left tied to a structure with a bowl of water and a bunch of bananas." It's not just sad, it's a crime. "And there is no excuse for leaving your pet behind to die. We are going to hold accountable those who we can prove left their dogs behind in the storm," says Aronberg.   1261

The man accused of killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida earlier this year reportedly attacked a detention officer inside a Florida jail Wednesday morning.WTVJ-TV in Miami spoke to the Broward County Sheriff's office in Miami, who confirmed that Nikolas Cruz attacked an injured a detention officer at the Broward County Jail Wednesday morning. The condition of the injured officer is unknown.Cruz is the suspected shooter in the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where 17 students and teachers were killed. Cruz was charged with 34 counts of premeditated murder and attempted murder in March and is currently awaiting trial.More on this as it develops.  779
