(KGTV) – In an effort to conserve energy amid a lingering heat wave, DMV offices across California will close at 3 p.m. from Monday through Wednesday this week.The decision to close early was made to save energy and “protect the health and safety of customers and employees from high heat impacts,” officials with the agency said.The early closures run from Aug. 17-19.DMV offices will accommodate customers -- with and without appointments -- until 2:30 p.m. on the specified days.Customers who have appointments on the specified days between 2:30 p.m.-5 p.m. will be contacted and have their appointments rescheduled.DMV officials said customers can visit the agency’s website for many services.Officials added: “The DMV is also using shade structures where available, offering mobile tickets so customers can wait in an air-conditioned car or other building and return when it is their turn, and making water available to customers and employees.During the closures and where possible, DMV employees will telework. Those currently working from home during this period of excessive heat will continue to do so and are encouraged to reduce energy consumption, especially during peak hours.The DMV is also reducing energy consumption throughout the day by turning off all unnecessary lights and equipment and closing blinds and other window coverings. Please say no to panhandling and yes to charities," Ventura Police's post read. "Giving money to panhandlers often feeds addictions and does not help someone get long-term help."The video features a silent officer holding various signs reading things like "want to help?" and then "please don't give to panhandlers."Comments on the viral video have ranged from supportive to not, some claiming that charities are not enough to solve the issue. Gavin Newsom has reversed parole for Charles Mason follow Leslie Van Houten, the fourth time a governor has stopped her release from prison.Newsom said Friday that Van Houten still poses a danger if released from prison.Van Houten is serving a life sentence for her part in helping Manson and others kill Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in August 1969. Van Houten was 19 years old at the time of the murders.Newsom has stopped her release once before, while former Governor Jerry Brown blocked it twice.Van Houten's attorney plans to appeal Newsom's decision.The Associated Press contributed to this report. 654
