A ten-year-old girl who was the subject of an AMBER Alert Monday has been found dead near her home. Kodie B. Dutcher was reported missing Monday afternoon, and a search of her home in Baraboo, Wisconsin found evidence that the girl threatened self-harm. The AMBER Alert message said Dutcher was suspected of taking "an unknown amount of pills and may be suicidal." The girl left behind her shoes and cell phone.Community members gathered to look for her Monday night and again Tuesday morning. No word at this time who found her body. Lt. A small explosion from the Halema'uma'u crater in Hawaii's Kilauea volcano at about midnight local time created an ash cloud that reached up to 10,000 feet, according to an alert from the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.More explosive events like the one on Friday could make for minor amounts of ashfall downwind at any time, and volcanic ash emissions remain high.In addition, fast-moving lava crossed a road and threatened dozens of homes, prompting National Guard helicopters to airlift residents from Hawaii's lower Puna area.Hawaii officials warned residents in affected areas to shelter in place Friday night and await further instructions. The lava forced the closure of Pohoiki Road, cutting off at least 40 homes, the Hawaii County Civil Defense said.The agency urged residents near Highway 137 to be ready for voluntary evacuations should the threat grow."With fresher, hotter magma, there's the potential that the lava flows can move with greater ease and therefore cover more area," US Geological Survey geologist Janet Babb told CNN affiliate Hawaii News Now.Resident Ikaika Marzo said the lava flow has left him and his neighbors rattled. It sounds like 10 or 20 jets taking off from your backyard at the same time, he told the affiliate."It's been like hell," he said. "It's like huge grenades going off. A nurse in Oregon who bragged about flouting COVID-19 rules in a TikTok video isn't employed with Salem Health anymore, the hospital confirmed to CNN and The Oregonian.Last month, Ashley Grames, an oncology nurse, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation after posting a video on Nov. 27 to social media bragging about not wearing a mask, still traveling, and letting her kids participate in playdates.According to KOIN in Portland, Oregon, Grames received an Interim Consent Order (ICO) for her departure effective Dec. 8, according to state records.The Oregonian reported that Grames agreed in the ICO to stop practicing nursing.According to the Oregon State Board of Nursing, ICOs are not considered discipline and remain in effect until the board votes to vacate the order and allow the nurse to practice again. 842
A new disinfectant is proving effective against coronavirus. It's called SurfaceWise2.The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) just gave the Allied BioScience product emergency use authorization.The disinfectant is the only long-lasting COVID-19 killer. It's sprayed on surfaces and kills the novel coronavirus and other viruses.“It’s a continuously self-cleaning surface, so as contaminants, germs, virus cells lands on the surface, the product is continuously and begins immediately killing those virus cells and pathogens,” said Jess Hilton, CMO at Allied BioScience.Its makers say testing proves it works for months. The EPA says it can kill coronavirus for us to seven days in one use. It's safe for surfaces and people."The EPA approval clears the way to begin effectively protecting consumers against COVID-19 as the only solution proven to provide long-term, non-toxic surface protection from the virus," said Allied BioScience CEO Michael Ruley in a press release. So far, the emergency use was approved for American Airlines planes and Texas-based companies. The state worked with the company on the waiver. Others are putting in waivers too.“The application opportunities for this product are sort of endless. A summer night at Cedar Point in northern Ohio in late June of 2015 was nearly over after one more ride for Theron Dannemiller, when the safety gates on the Raptor roller coaster got in his way."They started to shut on me," Dannemiller said. "I'm hurt and I look down and I can see the gash...you can see inside my leg."Dannemiller said something sharp on the gate caused a gruesome cut on the front of his shin that didn't heal for a year and now leaves a nasty scar."Most people are not aware that there is no tracking system for these injuries," Tracy Mehan, the Nationwide Children's Hospital Manager of Translational Research said. "We are able to get a feel for what's happening, but it's just an estimate."The comprehensive data she pulled together is little more than a best guess because no one tracks many of the bumps, bruises and even broken bones from amusement park rides. No one, at least, who is willing to share that information."There are people keeping track of the incidents and the injuries, but it's the amusement parks themselves," Jarrett Northup, a law partner at Jeffries, Kube, Forrest and Monteleone Co., said.Northup said in personal injury lawsuits, privately owned amusement parks hold all the cards because the injury data belongs to parks themselves. "It's probably data that the corporation feels can be used against them," Northup said.Cedar Point, for instance, has its own private police department and its own paramedics, so information about who they treat and what for isn't public."Having that information readily available to the public would make it easier to hold the amusement parks accountable," Northup said.There is some park injury information that becomes public when it's reported to the state.The Ohio Department of Agriculture requires stationary amusement parks, like Cedar Point or Kings Island near Cincinnati, to disclose an incident within 24 hours if it led to an overnight hospital stay. But even then, accountability is a challenge.Reports from the last five years documented many issues that had nothing to do with how the rides operate, like dizziness, elevated heart levels and heart attacks. It also shows that even parks struggle to figure out if an incident needs to be reported because they lose track of the injured person after they go to the hospital."If they go to the hospital and don't report that it was an injury due to an amusement ride, we don't see any of that," Mehan said. "So this is just the tip of the iceberg."In 2013, there's a record of when the state saw the iceberg below the water.In that report, the Department of Agriculture fined Kings Island 0 for not reporting an injury in 2013 until months later. Kings Island told the state they didn't know the injury created a long hospital stay, requiring a report, until the person who got hurt contacted them months after it happened. The park eventually paid the fine, costing them the price of 12 daily admission tickets.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland looked for what the state isn't capturing.Those private police departments and paramedics can't transport injured riders to the hospital, so they have to call local ambulances.
