San Diego International Airport is relocating its cell phone waiting lot to an area northwest of its current location on June 24. Drivers may park for free in the cell phone lot for up to an hour while they wait for loved ones to notify them of their arrival, avoiding traffic and illegal parking at the terminals.The new 85-space lot will be located east of the Airport Authority Administration Building on Harbor Drive. It will be accessible via a traffic light at Liberator Way, airport officials say. 673

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Restaurants up and down 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp District are gearing up for yet another three days of crowded on-street dining.This upcoming weekend will see 24 eateries offering service on the asphalt, up from the original eight that participating during the launch on June 18. But as they bask in the opportunity, restaurants on surrounding streets are asking - what about them?"It's a ghost town, especially at night," said Patrizia Bronchi, who owns Operacaffe on Fourth Avenue. "I'm really scared to have to close the restaurant because it's not possible to go on like this."Bronchi says revenue at Operacaffe is down more than 70 percent. She depends on crowds from the Balboa Theater across the street and visitors to hotels and conventions. All of that is nonexistent amid the Coronavirus outbreak.Bronchi says she is happy that 5th Avenue restaurants are seeing the increased business, but that the crowds are not spilling over onto 4th Avenue. Michael Trimble, who heads the Gaslamp Quarter Association, says the group cannot also close 4th and 6th Avenues due to traffic concerns.However, he said the association wants to help with new marketing, decorative lighting and parklets - such as replacing some parking spaces with permanent outdoor dining areas. "We really are trying to do what we can to support all of the merchants in the Gaslamp Quarter," he said. On Thursday to Saturday, 5th Avenue will be closed from L to F streets to allow on-street dining. During the second weekend of July, the number of participating restaurants will expand to 27. 1595

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents in one San Diego neighborhood have grown increasingly worried over reports of large boulders being left in the streets - in some cases, on top of vehicles.Golden Hill residents have reported the boulders appearing at 19th and Broadway, 26th and Broadway, Date Street, and the Golden Pacific Complex.At times, some of the boulders have been covered with cardboard or blankets."It's way too easy, with the way they're positioned, for someone to jump in their car like they do every day and take off and end up running over a giant boulder," said Benn Bruff.Bruff says a 25-pound boulder was placed in the wheel well of his girlfriend's car. Luckily they spotted it before she drove away. San Diego Police tell 10News the issue is very concerning. They are looking for more information and any description of the person responsible. Police says the person could face vandalism charges or obstruction of a roadway. If a driver were to hit a boulder and get in a serious accident the charges could be more severe. 10News reporter Amanda Brandeis spoke with a resident who knows the damage the rocks can cause first hand on 10News at 6 p.m.Councilman Chris Ward's office issued a statement to 10News, saying they are in contact with San Diego Police Department regarding the issue:"We were made aware of this issue by constituents over the weekend and share the concern for the safety of residents and car owners being impacted by this. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is letting voters know that they have options when it comes to dropping off their mail ballots.The county says voters can send in their mail ballots, drop them off at the Registrar of Voters in Kearny Mesa or drop them off at any of the 41 additional sites throughout the county.According to the county, the faster the ballots are returned, the quicker they can be prepared for counting on election night.The 41 drop-off locations are not early voting locations, but for mail ballots only, the county says.Click on the map below for a full list of drop-off location: “More than 1 million San Diego County voters use mail ballots, and that number continues to rise,” said Registrar Michael Vu. “The early drop-off sites are convenient for the voter, they help with the timely return of mail ballots and decrease the high volume of voters dropping off mail ballots at polling places on Election Day.”   960
