SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are searching for a man they say snuck through a window into a Pacific Beach home and sexually assaulted a sleeping woman.10News met 25-year-old Christine Mansour, skateboarding along the beach.   The entrepreneur has lived in PB for the last three years, and so far, she loves her neighborhood. "There is a bit of homeless people honestly, but I've never felt unsafe," Mansour said. That is until a manhunt for a suspected rapist unfolded in her area. On Oct. 1, police said 55-year-old Jeffrey Hanze, also known as "Jeffrey Hanre," snuck into a home in the 900 block of Chalcedony Street, located off Mission Boulevard, just before 2 a.m. Once inside, police say he sexually assaulted a woman as she was sleeping, before fleeing the area in an unknown direction."I feel very sorry for her. I hope she is okay," Mansour said. Police said Hanze has been on the run ever since. We went to Hanze's Pacific Beach address nearby. Instead of Hanze, we met 75-year-old Janet Eveleigh, who told us she moved in eight months ago. Yesterday afternoon, she said police came over, searching for Hanze. "There were two at the door, and three over there, and they had guns," Eveleigh said. She told them she had never seen the man in her life. 10News also looked into Hanze's criminal past. We found he has at least two felonies out of San Diego, and was charged with several sex crimes in Arizona in 2011, including Public sexual indecency, indecent exposure to a person 15 years or more, and disorderly conduct. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than 24,000 people were left without power due to an unplanned outage in San Diego Tuesday afternoon. The power outage was reported around noon and affected 24,067 people throughout San Diego. As of 7 p.m., the San Diego Gas and Electric outage map showed 3,352 customers without power. Neighborhoods affected include: City Heights, Chollas Creek, Oak Park, Kensington, Talmadge, W State College, Rolando, E State College and La Mesa. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — New data released by the San Diego County Office of Education show three-fourths of all K-12 students in the County are now studying online and experts believe that number will increase by the start of the new year.Poway parent, Caroline Epps, told her three children recently that they would be going back to virtual learning."I could tell they were disappointed," Epps said. "It's been nice having them there even though it's been such a short time. It's going to be a little difficult having them at home the whole day again."Poway Unified is one of the few school districts that are still offering modified in-person instruction, only to elementary students. But earlier this week, the district announced they would be recommending all students to revert to distance learning after winter break."My oldest will have the most difficult time with that because her assignments are more complex," Epps said.The decision comes after another surge in COVID-19 cases. Bob Mueller with the County Office of Education says 75% of K-12 students are now learning remotely, up from 68% last month."We are seeing the impact of gatherings for Thanksgiving," Mueller said. "It's likely that we will see the surge deepen for a time as we feel the impact of gatherings for the December holidays."School staff getting sick or having to quarantine are resulting in a serious staffing shortage."We are seeing unprecedented demand for substitutes," Mueller said. We need more people to work in those roles than we've ever needed before."Epps says while it is not ideal, she understands the situation. So she and her children will have to adapt and overcome."I don't think anyone wants the school year to be the way it has been," Epps said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One of the San Diego Zoo's oldest residents was euthanized due to age-related illnesses Wednesday.The zoo's male African lion, M'bari, had been suffering from a degenerative kidney, large kidney cyst, and spinal arthritis and under veterinary care before the decision was made to put him down, according to park spokesperson Andrew Jones.At 15-years-old, M'bari had exceeded expectations of a lion's average lifespan, which is about 10 years in the wild and can exceed 25 years in captivity, according to the zoo."In recent days, his condition had steadily worsened, despite attempts by animal care staff to modify his habitat to make him more comfortable," a statement from the zoo read. "This morning, because of his worsening quality of life, animal care staff made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize him."M'bari was introduced to locals at the San Diego Wild Animal Park in 2004 with the opening of Lion Camp when he was about two years old. He eventually moved to the San Diego Zoo in 2009, and has most recently lived with his mate, Etosha, in the Harry and Grace Steele Elephant Odyssey habitat. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police released a sketch Thursday depicting the suspect of a sexual assault at Black's Beach near La Jolla Shores this week.San Diego Police say the female victim was jogging on the beach Wednesday when she was sexually assaulted. The suspect slapped the woman's buttocks twice and grabbed her in the genital area before she broke free and called for help.Officers responded by did not find the man. The suspect is described as a Black man between 30 and 40 years old, with short to no hair and an earring in one ear.
