CLEVELAND — An American Airlines flight headed to Cleveland Saturday afternoon had a scary setback after the windshield cracked mid-flight, according to American Airlines.The flight, which departed from O'Hare International Airport in Chicago around 1:30 p.m., was in the air for approximately 30 minutes before a mechanical issue with the windscreen occurred and forced the flight to return to the airport, American Airlines said.American Airlines said that the plane landed safely and taxied to the gate without incident, and after changing aircraft, re-departed for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.No injuries to any customers or crew members were reported, American Airlines said.This story was originally published by Camryn Justice on WEWS in Cleveland. 775

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Among the sea of cardboard cut-out faces propped up in stands at MLB stadiums across the country is one specific face, present for teams he was never able to see play in person.Joaquin Oliver, his face among those in the crowds at Great American Ballpark in Ohio and 13 other MLB stadiums, was 17 when he was shot and killed in the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida in 2018. His father, Manuel, purchased cutouts in several different baseball stadiums to support his son's love of baseball and to make a statement about gun violence."I am not a baseball fan, so I was learning everything from him, and I was also creating those moments," said Manuel.Joaquin grew up loving baseball. His father loved the quality time the sport gave them together."I just want everybody to understand that life is about magic moments," said Manuel. "And going to the ballpark with your kids is such a magic moment."Manuel said he hopes fans who see the cutout of his son at GABP and other stadiums will be inspired to do something about gun violence, whether that be through voting, educating themselves, or joining an organization.He also founded Change the Ref, an organization that works to inspire a younger generation to help lead the way to change toward a more peaceful future. Manuel himself continues to work to raise awareness about the Parkland shooting and speaks out against what he calls a "corrupt" gun lobby and the politicians he believes its influences."I'm begging you to do something to prevent that from happening," said Manuel. COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A couple in Ohio said their children are no longer welcome at their school because of their hairstyle. The parents said they refuse to cut their sons’ locs in order to conform.“I don’t see how his hair stops him from learning or doing anything else,” Tina Johnson said.Nate and Tina Johnson's 6-year-old son, Asten, has been enrolled at Zion Temple Christian Academy for the past three years with no issue – but when they reached out to enroll their 3-year-old, they were told both boys were not allowed to have locs.“At this point, I’m fighting for my son,” Tina Johnson said.For the Johnsons, their hair and their heritage are intertwined. It’s a message they passed on to their children.“He doesn’t need to conform to fit any kind of mold,” Tina Johnson said.The family said they were disappointed to find out the predominantly-Black school they’ve been sending Asten to since Pre-K wouldn’t take him back with his hair in a certain style.“If this was a school in a different neighborhood, I don’t think the sting would be as hard,” she said.The Zion Temple Christian Academy in Avondale sent out an email saying "hair must be cut one inch short." Braids and design cuts for boys are also banned. WCPO reached out to Zion Temple Christian Academy for comment on this story but could not reach anyone who was allowed to comment on the school’s hair policy.“I’m sure it’s grown some, but it’s not drastically different from what it was in the school year,” she said. “He did start transitioning to this loc journey during the school year.”The Johnsons will be enrolling their kids in other schools – a tough, last-minute decision they said they feel they have no choice but to make.“It’s okay to be who you are, be confident in your own skin and relish that,” Nate Johnson said. “It’s something that you should be proud of. CLEVELAND — Police in the Cleveland area now report a total of five Amazon delivery trucks have been stolen in northeast Ohio since Nov. 25, and with them, hundreds of packages. Investigators say in some cases the vehicles are taken by thieves as the Amazon driver leaves the running truck to make a delivery.Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said that's exactly what happened on Dec. 13, after thieves stole an Amazon vehicle during a delivery."The driver was delivering a package, she had exited the truck and was putting it on the porch," Mecklenburg said. “A truck pulled up and one of the men got out and jumped in the Amazon truck and drove away. The truck had been left running with the keys in it. It is possible up to 200 packages, we believe, were in the truck at the time it was stolen. To me it’s just heartbreaking for all the people who had ordered. You know people were ordering online to be safe because they didn’t want to get sick, so many more people were ordering on-line and were looking forward to these packages and these gifts. It’s so close to Christmas, it really is sad, I feel horrible for the people who may not get these packages in time for the holidays.”Mecklenburg said the Amazon driver was not hurt, and said GPS tracking on-board the delivery truck helped speed-up the recovery effort.“Unfortunately, there were no cameras on the truck, and at this time we couldn’t find any cameras in the immediate area where the truck was stolen,” Mecklenburg said. “It’s my understanding that it’s their policy to leave them running when they exit it to deliver a package. We have heard that with some of these trucks, drivers are being robbed by people with guns.”News 5 contacted Amazon headquarters about the truck heists, and asked if these cases have the company considering delivery protocol changes, or adding truck surveillance cameras to assist police make arrests.
