BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China's retailers will offer refund to recent buyers of iPad 1 as price dropped with the debut of iPad 2.Apple released the upgraded version of the tablet on March 3 and announced to lower the price tags of the first generation iPad 1 by up to 27.6 percent. Buyers of iPad 1 within the last two weeks are eligible for a price difference compensation, according to Apple.Chinese customers who bought the product via Apple China online or its chain stores will also be compensated, according to a statement on Apple's website.Chinese electronics retailers such as Suning and Gome responded quickly to the price cut, promising to pay back their customers with a refund.Suning, China's biggest electronics retailer by market value, said iPad 1 buyers who bought the product from Feb 17 to March 2 can get the refund with the receipt starting Saturday.Gome, the second largest electronics retailer in China, also announced to pay back their customers who bought the product from Feb 18 to March 3 from their stores. Customers could apply for the refund with the receipt starting Sunday.

The International Space Station (ISS) crew of U.S. astronaut Ronald Garan and crew mates Russian cosmonauts Alexandr Samokutyaev and Andrey Borisenko is due to travel by Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS on April 5.The Soyuz TMA-21 rocket will deliver three crew members to the International Space Station (ISS) on April 5. In a six-month mission, these cosmonauts will carry out over 40 experiments.The Soyuz TMA modification is a replacement of the Soyuz TM as it was equipped with smaller and more efficient computers and improved displays. BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Computer sales declined in the first three months of this year for the first time since 2009 worldwide.PC sales fell 1.1 percent in the first quarter to 84.3 million worldwide, according to tech research firm Gartner Wednesday, well short of its forecast for 3 percent growth.The dip was the first since the second quarter of 2009, when most of the world was still in the grip of economic turmoil."Although the first quarter is traditionally a slow one for PC sales, these shipment results indicate potential sluggishness, not just a normal seasonal slowdown," said Gartner, in a statement.Consumers select IT products at an IT fair named "Sham Shui Po computer festival" in Hong Kong, south China, Feb. 15, 2011. The eight-day IT fair kicked off here Monday. LOS ANGELES, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Global warming will melt all the ice in the Arctic Ocean every summer, raising earth temperatures even further, researchers at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) warned.The findings, available online Sunday in the April issue of Earth and Planetary Science Letters, a leading journal in geoscience, were based on analysis of the fossilized remains of four-million-year-old mollusks, they said.Two novel geochemical techniques used to determine the temperature at which the mollusk shells were formed suggest that summertime Arctic temperatures during the early Pliocene epoch (3.5 million to 4 million years ago) may have been a staggering 18 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than today, the researchers said.And these ancient fossils, harvested from deep within the Arctic Circle, may have once lived in an environment in which the polar ice cap melted completely during the summer months, according to the researchers.Such balmy polar weather would certainly melt all the ice in the Arctic Ocean every summer, said Aradhna Tripani, an assistant professor at the UCLA's departments of Earth and space sciences."Our data from the early Pliocene, when carbon dioxide levels remained close to modern levels for thousands of years, may indicate how warm the planet will eventually become if carbon dioxide levels are stabilized at the current value of 400 parts per million," she said.The earth's temperature was raised five to nine degrees Fahrenheit merely by the absence of year-round Arctic ice, according to Tripani.The results of the study lend support to assertions made by climate modelers that summertime sea ice may be eliminated in the next 50 to 100 years, which would have far-reaching consequences for Earth's climate, she said."The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change identifies the early Pliocene as the best geological analog for climate change in the 21st century and beyond," said Tripati. "The climate-modeling community hopes to use the early Pliocene as a benchmark for testing models used for forecasting future climate change."

BEIJING, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- A total of 2.64 billion trips in China were recorded by road or ships during the 40-day Spring Festival transportation season which ended Sunday, the Ministry of Transport said.The figure was 13.6 percent higher than the same period last year, noted ministry spokesman He Jianzhong.To ensure smooth transportation, 840,000 buses were put into use each day during the busy season, as well as 13,089 ships, He said.Statistics on railway transportation are not yet available.However, statistics from the Beijing railway administration showed 20.63 million tourists had left Beijing during the transportation season from Jan. 19 to Feb. 27, up 3.9 percent year on year.The busy Spring Festival transportation season runs for 40 days and is calculated in two phases: 15 days before and 25 days after the Spring Festival.
