FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Caleb Lowman says he was forced to use his shotgun on his neighbor's three dogs when they escaped their cage and began attacking his goats. “When I came out, I had the shotgun with me with the hopes it wouldn’t have to be used,” Lowman said. Lowman says this isn't the first time the dogs have gotten out and been aggressive. On last Monday, the dogs got out of their fence and attacked the goats in his yard. Photos show the goats suffered bite marks up and down their neck and legs. However, one of the dogs' owners, Jake Hutto, claims his pets have never been aggressive. “I don’t understand how it’s possible to shoot three dogs in the head, to blow their face off," Hutto said.Lowman's family called Animal Control after last week's incident and says they safely returned all three dogs to the neighbors. Five days later, Lowman says it happened again — this time in front of his 13-year-old daughter, Chloe. “I had to go outside and watch basically my babies be attacked by dogs," said Chloe. Lowman says despite his family's efforts, the dogs killed two of the goats. That's when he pulled out his shotgun and killed all three dogs. Hutto came home to find that Animal Control had left his pets in three large trash bags.“There’s nothing more you can do, nothing’s going to bring them back,” Hutto said. Records show several citations had been issued from Animal Control to the dog owners' household. But with two goats and three dogs now gone, Lowman says this isn't what he wanted. "This time it was our goats, Monday it was our goats; if we let that happen again that could have been my children," he said. "It didn’t need to be this way if they just secured their dogs."A spokesperson for Animal Control says this is an active investigation. Lowman claims when he put in his final statement today at Animal Control, he was told two citations would be issued against the dog owners. He says the citations are for dogs menacing and harassing livestock and running at large.  2160

For religious groups around the country, technology is helping them overcome the hurdles of the COVID-19 pandemic.Alma Gonzalez chokes up as she talks about her family and how they taught the importance of faith.“I was raised by my grandmother,” Alma Gonzalez said. “Very devout Catholic and very devoted to Our Lady, and she taught me how to pray.”It was Gonzalez’s upbringing that motivated her to take part in the annual pilgrimage in Palm Springs, California.“It was a miracle to finish it,” said Gonzalez. The 34-mile walk, in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a patron saint of millions of Mexicans and Latinos, has brought together thousands in California for more than two decades. This year, organizers canceled their plans, but adapted to the current conditions. It was the first time in 15 years that Gonzalez did not participate, but she did honor the Virgin de Guadalupe from home.“I think the attitude that I’ve seen develop is we can’t do everything the way we did it before, but we will do whatever we can to keep the spirit alive and I really see that among the people,” said one religious leader. The mass in honor of the Virgin will be held with a limited number of parishioners while respecting social distancing guidelines. Also, the ceremony will be streamed live through their social media pages.“That will give people at home that can’t come the opportunity to join in the prayer and be part of the community, even if it’s virtual.”Other religious groups are implementing the same approach.Jewish temples in Cleveland canceled their large public Hanukkah events, but are using the web to stream their faith. As for Gonzalez, COVID-19 won’t stop her from worshiping during the holidays. She’ll be praying from home with her loved ones.“Do not let COVID overcome us with fear. Let’s continue with our faith and our prayer,” said Gonzalez. 1863

Former Vice President Joe Biden said he hopes Democrats do not impeach President Donald Trump right away if they take control of the House, arguing they should wait until the conclusion of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation to determine their approach."I hope they don't. I don't think there's a basis for doing that right now," Biden said in an interview with "CBS This Morning" co-host Nora O'Donnell. "I think we should wait until the report comes out."Asked if Mueller should release his report before the midterm elections, Biden said, "I think it should be issued when they finish the investigation. I've been around a long time. You wait until the investigation's finished. You don't put an arbitrary end to it. You wait till it's finished, and let's see what it has to say."While some Democrats, including billionaire donor Tom Steyer, are pushing for impeachment, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who could become speaker if Democrats win back control, has tried to quiet impeachment speculation."Our priority (is) unifying. Impeachment is a very divisive approach. Elections should determine who is in office," Pelosi told CNN last month. "If the President has broken law, he's not above the law, but that remains to be seen."A CNN poll conducted by SSRS last month found that nearly half of Americans in the poll -- 47% -- said Trump should be impeached and removed from office. That figure was up from a June poll that found 42% said Trump should be removed from office. In the same interview, the former vice president also criticized Trump's handling of the disappearance of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, a critic of Saudi Arabia's government, in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul."I'm very worried that the President seems to have a love affair with autocrats," Biden said. "The idea that he's already making excuses before the facts are known ... it's typical but it hurts us internationally."Biden said his doubts about Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman have "been confirmed.""My doubts are that there is very little sense of rule of law, respect for human rights, dignity and you know, the allegations that are made so far -- I don't know yet -- are not inconsistent with the way the kingdom would act," he said. The former vice president argued there should "absolutely positively" be consequences if it is found the crown prince ordered Khashoggi's apparent murder and floated the cancellation of US arms sales to Saudi Arabia as a possible retaliatory measure.Asked to explain Trump's behavior, Biden said, "I don't want to speculate on my worst fears but either he doesn't know what he's doing or he has an absolutely convoluted notion of what allows America to lead the world." 2762

FEEDING SAN DIEGO VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS MANAGER SAM DUKE HAS A PASSION FOR HELPING PEOPLE HELP OTHERS. HE'S BEEN HOOKED ON HELPING SINCE THE FIRST TIME HE VOLUNTEERED. — SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An army of 14,000 volunteers help Feeding San Diego fight food insecurity across the county every year. One man makes sure that each and every person who volunteers their time is put to work in the most efficient way possible."My job is so amazing because I get to work with these amazing volunteers that come in," says Sam Duke, Feeding San Diego's Volunteer Program Coordinator. "I'm just so thankful they're giving their time to come help us end hunger. I can't thank them enough."Duke started as a volunteer in 2013. He was hooked from the first time he walked into the warehouse."It was cool, the energy that was here, the staff was so welcoming and supportive and made me feel right at home," he says. After that first experience, he started volunteering on a regular basis. Eventually he became a full time employee and worked his way up to his current position."I love setting up the project and I love engaging with the volunteers and hearing their stories and hearing about how they heard about us or came to us. I just love being able to connect with those volunteers," he says.Without the volunteers, Feeding San Diego wouldn't be able to help the 1 in 8 San Diegans who face food insecurity. The collective work they do amounts to an extra 22 full-time employees. "Volunteers are at the heart of what we do," says Sam.If you're interested in volunteering, go to the "Get Involved" section of feedingsandiego.org. 1617
