SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new grant for City Heights businesses in San Diego is aimed at helping small businesses get back on their feet after pandemic impacts.The City Heights Business Relief Fund has so far grown to 0,000 and that money will go to businesses in the area. Each business can get up to ,000. To be eligible, the business must be located within City Heights. The priority is on businesses owned by women and/or minorities that are already established in the community who have not received other relief funds. She also said half of those applicants have not received any relief yet, which she said can be because of language barriers and extensive applications.Some of the money has come from donations from Price Philanthropies and U.S. Banks.Addis Ethiopian Restaurant, located at 3643 El Cajon Blvd., is one of the businesses hoping for help. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report shows how San Diego ranks among U.S. and California cities for seniors. According to caring.com, San Diego ranks 159th out of 302 cities nationally for best and worst cities for seniors. San Diego ranked high on the list when it comes to quality of life, ranking 94th out of the 302 cities. Some areas where San Diego ranked lower include healthcare,180th out of 302 and affordability, placing 194th out of 302. In California, San Diego ranked fairly low, coming in at 45th among 75 cities. The best cities in The Golden State for seniors are San Francisco, Woodland Hills, Santa Monica and Burlingame. Nationally, San Francisco also took the top spot, followed by Fredericksburg, Virginia, Washington D.C. and Boston Massachusetts. Caring.com rated the cities using data on healthcare, housing options, community engagement, transportation, quality of life and workforce development. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos resident is sharing video of what he believes is a large mountain lion running across a busy street in his neighborhood.Mike Johanning was driving home from dinner at 11 p.m. when his dash cam captured the animal.The incident happened on Navajo Road near the Mission Trails Golf Course and Cowles Mountain trailhead.The possible mountain lion was as wide as his car, Johanning told 10News.Johanning has lived or worked in San Carlos since 1997 and said he had never seen a mountain lion in the area.Wildlife Research Institute researcher David Bittner saw Johanning’s video and confirmed it was likely a mountain lion.  Bittner is leading a project that has set up cameras throughout the county looking for mountain lions.  He says a sighting in San Carlos is rare.Bittner says he may be a juvenile striking out on his own hunting for deer. "Usually they go back home after a few days," said Bittner.  966

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local marine is recovering from COVID-19 while deployed overseas.Jennifer Dulaney says her husband, Kyle, was deployed in April and is serving at a base in Okinawa. He tested for COVID-19 earlier this month.“My husband called me on a Monday morning as I was getting ready for work and said he felt like he was getting symptoms,” Jennifer said.Kyle got worse and was eventually sent to the ICU. His condition began to worsen that he qualified for the Remdesivir. It was described as an experimental drug, and doctors needed Jennifer’s permission to administer it to Kyle.Jennifer is a nurse and knew that COVD-19 could be very severe.“I know where COVID can go, they can spiral downwards real fast,” she said, “so for me, the benefits outweighed the risk.”Jennifer said he began to show improvement on the fifth day. She was able to him Friday morning.“They were drawing his lab work because that’s one of the things with the experimental (treatment), they have to watch things very closely,” she described, “but he actually laughed on the phone, he was able to talk to me without coughing. It’s amazing.”She hopes her husband will be out of the ICU within the next two days.During the difficult time, Jennifer took a leave of absence from her job. She said it was difficult to continue working as a nurse while worrying about her husband’s health. So to help with finances, a friend started a GoFundMe for their family.
