SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect after two people were stabbed in the San Diego River Tuesday night. According to police, the stabbing happened on the 500 block of Morena Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. between Old Town and Linda Vista.After the stabbing, the suspect, only described as a man wearing a white shirt, fled the scene. Despite a police helicopter and officers on foot, the suspect managed to escape.Lt. Mike Ramsay said the two victims were hispanic men, ages 18 and 19. One was stabbed in the chest and the other in the stomach. They were taken to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. Ramsay described their condition as "serious but stable."Police closed off Morena Boulevard near Interstate 8 as they searched for the suspect, creating heavy traffic in the area. 10News will continue to keep you updated as soon as we receive more information. 882

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Quiet neighborhood walks have turned disturbing for a growing number of women in Rancho Bernardo.Along Paseo Lucido, feet from a park, Lauren was walking her dog one early evening two weeks ago. She walked past the passenger side of an older, white, 2-door Toyota."The front windows were down and the seat was back ... looked over inside the car and saw he was exposing himself and touching himself," said Lauren.'He' was a large man in his 30s with short dark hair."He smiled when he saw me looking. I immediately looked away. Just very anxious and scared," said Lauren.Lauren took off for a neighbor's house. When she returned minutes later, the car was gone. About a week later - around 6:30 a.m. last Thursday - Robbie was blocks away on Avenida Venusto when a similar car, driven by a man with a similar description, pulled ahead of her and parked in a red zone."Kind of slouched back. He has his pants down, and he's actively touching himself," said Robbie.And again, the stranger met a woman's glance before driving off."And he looked up at me with a big smile on his face," said Robbie. These women aren't alone, as Lauren found out when she posted her incident on the Nextdoor app for her area."There are at least seven other women who have encountered this person in the last few months," said Lauren.In many cases, the women report the car pulling ahead and stopping. "I think he's targeting women who are walking by themselves or slowly walking their dogs by themselves," said Lauren.In one of the other reports, a woman says the man was driving a gray Honda. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Native American artists are finding new audiences and venues to display their craft as American Indian stories enter pop culture."Some of us refer to it as 'Native Sovereignty,' being in charge of your own narrative," says Joely Proudfit, the California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center Director. "Who better to tell our story than us?"Proudfit says the change is welcome after decades of Native Americans being depicted poorly in pop culture, mainly because non-native people have told the stories.Thanks to new ways of telling stories, like streaming services, social media, and more access to film festivals and book publishing, that's changing.There's also a greater demand for stories by Native American voices."I think audiences are hungry for not diversity for diversity's sake. They're just interested in other communities, other worlds, engagement, and really authenticity," says Proudfit.The California Indian Culture and Sovereignty Center and Cal State San Marcos sponsor the California American Indian & Indigenous Film Festival. Since starting in 2013, it has grown from small groups in a classroom to taking over the Pechanga Resort and Casino.It's now the largest Native American Film Festival on tribal land in the country.The festival's growth parallels the rise of other Native American voices in different mediums."The biggest change is the increased number of native voices and the medium in which native folks have been able to express their creativity," says Dr. David Kamper, the Chair of American Indian Studies at San Diego State University.Kamper says he sees more American Indian voices in books, online, and in fashion. He says that representation, whether it's Nike's N7 line of shoes and clothes or best-sellers like "The Only Good Indians" or "The Beadworkers," is essential to helping Native Americans define their culture in modern-day America."Seeing native films, seeing native art, seeing native clothing, fashion, that is done in a contemporary way, is a very loud statement against a settler-colonial narrative that native people aren't here anymore," Kamper says.He also points to online messaging like the hashtag #OnNativeLand as one way the next generation is reclaiming their identity.Proudfit says she's excited for what the future holds for Native American representation in Pop Culture."I think it's just a really exciting time for indigenous cinema, indigenous arts, and native storytelling. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Nearly one week after Election Day and with state Assemblyman Todd Gloria holding a comfortable lead, City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry conceded in the race for San Diego mayor.As of Nov. 9 vote totals, Gloria was leading Bry 56% to 46%.During a virtual press conference on Monday, Bry said she called Gloria the day before and offered her congratulations. Regarding the campaign, Bry said she felt voters were misled by the media and political ads from the opposition.Bry said, "I want to congratulate Todd Gloria as the next mayor of San Diego. He and I spoke by phone yesterday, and I offered him my congratulations. But for the next few years, our city faces many challenges because of COVID-19, and Mr. Gloria will have a tough job. Thousands of San Diegans are unemployed through no fault of their own and city revenues are declining."She added, "I wish those issues could have been more central to the mayoral campaign. We certainly tried to make them the focus of our communications. Unfortunately, interest groups supporting my opponent took a different approach.Perhaps inspired by the ‘fake news’ rhetoric coming out of Washington, they spent over million on TV commercials and mailers cynically designed to fool voters into thinking they were sponsored by our campaign. In times past, dishonest advertising of that sort would have been called out by responsible journalists, and voters would have been made aware of these cynical tactics. But the media -- like many citizens -- has become so desensitized to such tactics that they no longer pique their interest. And, unfortunately, these dishonest attacks clearly impacted our campaign."When asked if she would run for mayor again, Bry said she may not seek public office again. She added she plans to take time off with her family before her next endeavor.Bry, 71, will remain on the San Diego City Council until Dec. 10. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Padres outfielder Tommy Pham is recovering after being stabbed in the back Sunday night, the team says.According to San Diego Police, Pham was stabbed during an altercation Sunday night.The Padres said Monday that Pham is in “good condition.” He is expected to make a full recovery.“We are aware of the incident last night involving Tommy Pham. He was treated at UC San Diego Health and is currently in good condition. He is expected to make a full recovery. The San Diego Police Department is actively investigating the incident and we will have no further comment at this time,” the Padres said.Pham Monday also thanked the medical staff in charge of his care.“I’d like to thank the incredible medical staff at UC San Diego Health for taking such great care of me last night.
