(AP) — Two boys were fatally shot while sitting in a van outside an elementary school early Saturday morning, police said.The shootings of the boys, ages 11 and 14, took place in the parking lot of Searles Elementary School, the East Bay Times reported.Callers to 911 reported hearing gunfire at 1:26 a.m., the newspaper said. Authorities said that when officers arrived, they found the boys.The older boy died at the scene, and the younger child died en route to a trauma center, the Times reported.New Haven Unified School District Superintendent John Thompson said in a statement that the victims were minors.The boys attended schools in the district, Thompson and a district spokesman said.No arrests have been made in connection with the killings.Police Lt. Steve Mendez said there was no sign of a connection between the shooting and the school where it took place. People occasionally gather in the relatively secluded parking lot, Mendez told the Times.Thompson said the school district “will have support for our students and staff at the sites where these students attended when school resumes after the Thanksgiving break.”The district also will work with the Union City Police Department “to ensure that our schools are as safe as they can be,” he said.Police are investigating the possibility that an earlier shooting may be related to the slayings, the Times reported. Two people were found dead in a South Euclid, Ohio home early Saturday morning following a 12-hour standoff tied to the investigation of a Beachwood, Ohio doctor who was found shot to death on Thursday.Around 7:30 p.m Friday, SWAT converged on a second house belonging to Dr. Richard Warn in the 4300 block of Elmwood Road to serve a warrant with homicide detectives. Warn was found dead the previous day inside his Beachwood home on Brentwood Road.SWAT officers made entry into the residence using an armored vehicle and were met with gunfire. Authorities retreated and over the next 12 hours attempted to make contact with the people inside. On Saturday morning SWAT entered the house and found two white males dead inside, police said.The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is processing the scene for evidence.Police said the two men were persons of interest in the doctor's death. Their identities have not been released, and it's not known how they died.Watch the press conference regarding the SWAT standoff below: 1052

TULSA, Okla. — A Tulsa police major is suing several media companies for publishing comments he made in a radio interview in June.Major Travis Yates has filed a lawsuit against Comcast, Gannett, Public Radio Tulsa, Gatehouse Media and others, saying their reports portrayed him in a "false light."During a June appearance on Talk Radio 1170 with host Pat Campbell, Yates said data shows systemic racism "doesn't exist" and "all the research says we're shooting African Americans about 24% less than we ought to be based on the crimes being committed."In the days following his comments, the Tulsa Police Department opened an investigation into Yates, and Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum called on Yates to apologize.Yates later claimed his comments were taken out of context, particularly in the headlines of some media reports.
