(KGTV) — North County fans of Salt & Straw will soon have another option to grab a scoop closer to home.The ice cream parlor's second San Diego location is set to open at Carmel Valley's One Paseo development on Friday, March 22, a spokesperson told 10News. The first 100 guests will also get a custom Salt & Straw tote bag at the opening.Known for its unique flavors that have already attracted fans to its first San Diego stop in Little Italy, Salt & Straw has scooped out a niche as a popular small-batch ice cream shop. RELATED: Shake Shack opens third San Diego stop at Carmel Valley's One Paseo development"Designed in collaboration with Andee Hess of Portland-based Osmose Design, the new scoop shop features custom design details that recall a modern-day mercantile, offering a welcoming setting to gather within One Paseo," the company said in a release. "A large exterior hand-painted mural of an ice cream cone incorporates Salt & Straw’s signature striped motif — a nod to the company’s origins as a red-and-white striped ice cream cart."In San Diego, customers can find custom local flavors such as Peanut Butter Stout with Chocolate Chicharrón featuring Belching Beaver Brewery’s peanut butter milk stout, and James Coffee and Bourbon featuring coffee from local roasters James Coffee Co.At One Paseo, the shop will debut two new dairy-free flavors: Freckled Mint TCHO-colate Chip and Dandelion Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies & Cream.As if that wasn't enough for customers to choose from, a special menu of themed flavors will rotate monthly. (KGTV) - Twenty-nine migrants were processed at the Calexico Port of Entry after non-profits say they were separated from their children and deported.Sandra Cordero, Director at Families Belong Together, said 27 children ages 5 to 15 have been separated from their parents. Some for more than a year. Cordero said the parents came from Central America, including Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.Together Rising and Al Otro Lado raised money to fly the parents to Tijuana. Cordero said they stayed in Tijuana for two weeks preparing to go to the Calexico Port of Entry. Cordero said they presented themselves Saturday morning and U.S. Customs and Border Protection told them the detention center was at capacity.While waiting, Cordero shared some of the parents' stories, "he was trying to prepare his son because he knew they would be separated but he couldn't find the words or the feeling of how he was going to tell him that," Speaking about a man named Jose from Guatemala. He stood beside her while she spoke and wiped away tears. After 10 hours, the parents were brought in to process their asylum requests."We just found out that they're going to accept five families at a time and they're letting them all in, so thank you thank you thank you," Amanda Doyle, Vice President of Together Rising, said tearfully."I think it was really us, our presence here, and the presence of all of our supporters online, calling tweeting, pressuring, we're so lucky to have all these supporters that made today happen," Cordero said.Cordero said they would be back Sunday to ensure the parents were being processed quickly so they may be connected with their U.S. sponsors and ultimately reunited with their children. Cordero said they have lawyers who know where the children are and going through procedures to ensure they can be released to their parents. 1879

  

CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Cal Fire responded Saturday afternoon to a large fire burning near the border in Campo. According to the agency, the fire is raging near Forest Gate Road and Border Road.Although Southern California Air Operations tweeted around 11:45 a.m. that the fire "is now well established on the U.S. side," Cal Fire says the blaze never reached the U.S. Air Operations said it sent several aircraft to the fire, including two tankers and two helicopters, but around 1 p.m., all aircraft were released from the fire. The agency said the fire is burning in light flashy fuels with a rapid rate of spread. The blaze is estimated at 50 to 100 acres currently, Cal Fire reported. CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) — Lights, camera, action!Camp Pendleton service members and families were treated to a special visit Wednesday, as actor Mark Wahlberg, known for his support of military members behind the cameras, stopped in to visit.Wahlberg participated in a meet and greet at the base's Pacific View Exchange as part of a tour to visit service members and their families, according to the base.Video posted to Twitter by Camp Pendleton showed the actor mingling with the troops and signing autographs for families. 539
