After rolling out the red carpet for Xi at the Presidential Palace on central Hanoi's Ba Dinh Square, Trong accompanied his Chinese guest to walk a short distance to the CPV headquarters for talks.
"Peace and stability are both the starting points and the objectives of China's South China Sea policy," Xi said, noting China is "fully capable of and confident" in working with ASEAN members to maintain peace and stability in the region.
China's policymakers are compiling the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), and the proposal on the plan was adopted at the Fifth Session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, which ended in Beijing on Oct. 29.
"The Chinese have maintained a stable economic growth for 40 years. We are here to understand their lessons. These lessons offer us valuable support in building our cities," he said.
In Xi's speech, China and Africa are described as a community with a common destiny as they share similar historical experiences and similar courses of struggle for independence and development. What's more, they also share the achievements of joint development.
