A Las Vegas man says the possibility of him being deported caused his 14-year-old son to jump out of a moving vehicle, leading to his death.Reporters for Scripps station KTNV in Las Vegas spoke to Ezequiel Anorve from behind bars at the Clark County Detention Center on Thursday night.Anorve, an undocumented immigrant, has been in jail since Aug. 17 on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He's currently being kept on an immigration hold.Anvorve's family visited him in jail between 8 and 9 p.m. on Aug. 20. During that time, Anorve told his wife two sons that he may be deported to Mexico.Anorve's 14-year-old son, Silas, took the news especially hard. Just 15 minutes later, he jumped out of a moving car on a busy highway. Another vehicle ran him over, killing him,Anorve's older son also ran across a few lanes of traffic to try and save his little brother, according to Anorve, but it was too late.Anorve says the stress surrounding his possible deportation led Silas to jump out of the car, taking his own life."This is just a message from God, to show the world, not just Nevada, not just the United States, to show the world, how America is hurting and breaking families apart," Anorve said.Anorve is hoping to make it to his son's funeral next week but doesn't know if he will be allowed to attend. 1369

A high-ranking Transportation Security Administration official says the agency is falling short when it comes to protecting airport screeners and the public from the new coronavirus while at the country's airports, according to published reports. The Officer of Special Counsel, a federal office that handles whistleblower complaints, has ordered an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security. The whistleblower's charges were reported by the Washington Post and National Public Radio. Several publications identify the whistleblower as TSA Federal Security Director Jay Brainard, who is the official in charge of transportation security in Kansas. "You've got communities shutting down. You've got governors shutting things down. And we still hadn't mandated masks. We still hadn't mandated eyewear. We still weren't changing personal protective equipment as often as we needed to," Brainard told NPR. "Every federal security director was forced to fend for him or herself."TSA says it follows guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and that screeners now wear masks and nitrile gloves. But the whistleblower says there are still gaps, including no procedure for handling travelers who appear to be sick.Brainard has been a whistleblower before, most recently in December when he told CNN he was worried about loosened security at airports. 1386

A carjacker is dead on Milwaukee north side, shot by the man he was trying to rob according to police.Officers said the shooter was legally carrying a gun and is now cooperating with them.People living near the incident said it is concerning since the attempted carjacking happened around the same time they start their day.Just before 6 a.m. Monday, police said a 21-year-old with a gun tried to steal a car from a man on his way into work. "It's really sad that a person would do that as far as try to rob someone who was going to work," said Kinyata Hendriex who lives nearby."A lot of young people think this is a game and that's it's just only fun. This is not fun," said Milwaukee Police Captain Andra Williams.The victim had a concealed carry permit, pulled out his own gun and fired. People say even if the shooting was justified it is not something someone should have to live with."Life threatened, if you got the opportunity then certainly it's within their right to go ahead and do that. It's sad," said nearby business owner Sean O'Byrne."I think it's a tragic situation. It's sad," said Hendriex.Police don't think the man who was shot was alone.
