WENCHANG, Hainan, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- China is building a science theme park in the middle of its newest spaceport to promote space science among the country's younger generation.The theme park, covering an area of 1,800 mu (120 hectares) in Wenchang City, southern Hainan Province, is located at the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center. The project is estimated to cost 3 billion yuan (455 million U.S. dollars) and is expected to be finished in 2013, the theme park's designers said.Wenchang Satellite Launch Center, whose construction began in 2007, is planned as the launch pad for China's lunar probe rocket in 2013.At the same time, the theme park will have four exhibition sections, featuring the earth, moon, Mars and the sun. Visitors can even enter parts of the launch station and watch the actual rocket launch, theme park construction officials said.The theme park is being built by China Aerospace International Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong listed arm of the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.There are currently three space launch sites in China, the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center and the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.

TIANJIN, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A subway train of six cars being assembled rolled off a production line Friday at a production base in north China's Tianjin Municipality, according to China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation (CSR).The subway train is the first of the kind ever produced at the CSR Tianjin Industrial Park, said CSR's chairman, Zhao Xiaogang.The train, designed to run at a speed of 80 km per hour, has a holding capacity of 1,800 passengers. It will will be used in Tianjin's Subway Line 3, which will begin service in 2011.The production base, with an initial investment of 3 billion yuan (455 million U.S. dollars), can produce 100 to 200 trains a year. It will attain a capacity of producing 500 trains annually in the next five years, according to Zhao.Analysts say the base's first product marked Tianjin's efforts to encourage the development of modern and more advanced industries in the city.The production base will boost the development of emerging industries in Tianjin and contribute to China's economic transformation, Zhao said.CSR, a state-owned company with more than 80,000 employees, produces about 70 percent of all high-speed trains China.

This will help Shanghai further speed up its plans to become a global financial center by 2020, an ambition which was approved by the State Council in March 2009.According to figures from the Shanghai headquarters of the People's Bank of China (PBOC), there are 11 financial institutions running M&A loan businesses in the city, lending more than 10 billion yuan (.5 billion) during the first seven months of this year.The central government in September issued guidelines on the promotion of enterprise M&A in six major industries, including automobiles and cement, to accelerate cross-border corporate restructuring and cater for the nation's aim of rebalancing the economy as the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) approaches."We should increase support for cross-border M&A activities, which is of great significance to China's economy and will help stimulate the Asian economic recovery," said Su Ning, board chairman of China UnionPay, the country's only credit card network.The former vice-governor of the PBOC also urged more private firms, which have actively sought areas of overseas expansion, to participate in cross-border deals using their extensive capital resources.China's private economy accounts for more than half of the nation's gross domestic product, according to Huang Mengfu, vice-chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- "Building roads before building wealth," a widely known slogan in China, was cited by Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad.Lengsavad was referring to a planned high speed railway for his country. As an inland country, Laos wants to counter its disadvantages of being land-locked by improving its transportation systems, Lengsavad said at the ongoing seventh World Congress on High Speed Rail in Beijing.In April, Laos reached an agreement with China to establish a joint venture that will construct a railway linking China's southwestern Yunnan province and the Lao capital of Vientiane. The project will be launched in 2011, with an estimated construction time of four years, Lengsavad said.Thailand, another country in Southeast Asia, is also partnering with China to improve its rail network.In October, Thailand approved a negotiation framework for a project for Thailand-China cooperation on high-speed rail. Under the framework, the two countries will cooperate to build five railways designed for speeds of 250 km per hour at a cost of 22.5 to 25.5 billion U.S. dollars.Regional traffic networks promote trade, investment as well as economic and social development, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thuagsuban said at the conference.China's high-speed rail is welcomed by its neighboring developing countries, not only for its competitive cost performance ratio, but for the great impetus it gives to economic and social development.Some media even used "high-speed rail diplomacy" to describe the prosperity of China's construction of the rail network.On the other side of the Pacific Ocean, Chinese enterprises have begun to enter the U.S. market.General Electric Co. I'm sure it will benefit both companies and both countries as a result," said Bill Millar, president of the American Public Transportation Association.Since 2003, China has signed agreements or memoranda of understanding for bilateral cooperation on rail with more than 30 countries, including the United States, Russia, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Poland and India.In a post-crisis era, developing the low-carbon economy and seeking sustainable development has pushed for a third global wave of high-speed railway construction.Under this circumstance, China's high-speed rail network has been developing quickly over the past years with a combined length totaling 7,531 kilometers, the world's longest.During a latest test run on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway in December, a CRH-380A train set a new speed record of 486.1 km per hour.Chinese manufacturing sources said Tuesday China aimed to break the world high-speed rail record of 574.8 km per hour in a trial run next year.All these are the basis for China's high-speed rail industry to "go abroad" and conduct international cooperation.Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang said at the conference that China should open up wider to the outside world and enhance communication and cooperation with other countries in high-speed rail, while encouraging Chinese rail enterprises to "go abroad" and enhance friendship through cooperation.Jean-Pierre Loubinoux, general director of the International Union of Railways (UIC), said the great development of Chinese high-speed rail has demonstrated that only by learning from each other can all seek a better and faster development."The cooperation on high-speed rail enhances cooperation between nations, thus advancing the industry to a higher standard," said E. He said the trade fair will offer an opportunity for China to showcase its development, especially its clean energy technologies.Li responded that there is great potential for Sino-German cooperation in areas such as clean energy, adding that China wants to learn from Germany's advanced technology and management expertise and join hands with Germany to develop the new energy markets.China wants to use the opportunity of the Hanover Fair to strengthen high-tech cooperation with Germany, he added.
