White spent more than 30 years in America’s Finest City as a reporter and anchor at KGTV 10News.White grew up in Oceanside and graduated from Oceanside High School in 1957. He was even inducted into the school’s hall of fame for his contribution to the arts.White began his broadcasting career on the radio in the early 1960s before moving to TV where he spent 34 years at KGTV.On November 14, 2010, the City of San Diego declared Jack White Day. The county made a similar declaration. Many who worked with him called him a gentleman and a great coworker. After leaving 10News, White worked as a technical advisor on the movie “Anchorman.”White covered every story there was to be covered in San Diego. Once it receives the vaccine, UC San Diego Health says its first vaccinations could occur shortly after."Assuming the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issues an Emergency Use Authorization tomorrow or Friday, we would anticipate arrival of the first allocation of the Pfizer vaccine to UC San Diego Health next week, with the first vaccinations occurring shortly thereafter," a statement from the hospital system said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lifeguards say two people were rescued from a trail in the Blacks Beach area on Sunday in separate incidents.The first involved a woman who injured her ankle, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The woman was about half-way down before being injured. Lifeguards put her on a stretcher and used ropes to lower her down to the beach. She was taken by lifeguards to meet paramedics.The second occurred on the same trail, involving a woman suffering from heat exhaustion. She was unable to make it down the rest of the trail, requiring lifeguards to hoist her to the beach below to get her to paramedics.Lifeguards said with Labor Day weekend approaching and a heatwave expected next weekend, they are reminding visitors to local trails to know their limits, wear proper footwear for uneven beach terrain, and make sure they have plenty of water.Beach lifeguards say they don't expect to see crowds slow down anytime soon. 945

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Loved ones are speaking out more than a week after a bloody melee that injured eight guards at Donovan state prison in Otay Mesa.The violence erupted two Sundays ago, around 4 p.m., inside the recreation yard. Corrections officials say there were about 20 inmates in the yard when one of them attacked a guard. His fellow guards rushed to help. In the mayhem that followed, four inmates allegedly assaulted guards. Six of the guards suffered stab wounds.Christina Armstrong's longtime boyfriend, correctional officer Malcolm Billingsley, was in the middle of it."The best way I hear him describe it is a 'melee, just chaos' ... There was so much going on, it was hard for him to pinpoint each action that was taken," said Armstrong.Corrections officials say a warning shot by one of the guards ended the altercation. As the guards were rushed to hospitals, news filtered out to loved ones."It was frightening not knowing for several hours what was going on. It was terrifying," said Armstrong.Billingsley was not stabbed, but suffered a back injury and possible nerve damage to his hand."It's hard for him to everyday things. He can't take care of our son, let alone play with him. He's in a lot of pain," said Armstrong.His fellow guard Roland Milan was stabbed in the face and suffered a brain bleed. His wife Marcy says he's had four plates inserted into his face."A stab wound to the face, to the mouth area. All his upper teeth were knocked out," she said.Sources say in all, eight guards were injured, including one with a fractured bone in his back.Armstrong says because of an ongoing investigation, she can't reveal details of the melee, but says the guards fought hard for their lives and the lives of their fellow guards."They are all heroes.
