SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Drone video of a Pacific Beach man's search and rescue of his blind pet chameleon plays out like the perfect Hollywood action sequence.Vince Kay Vera says his pet chameleon, "Pete," is temporarily blind due to an infection. "He doesn't normally act like this. He's usually hunting, and hiding, and cruising, but right now he's just roaming aimlessly because he can't see," Vera says.RELATED: Blind San Diego puppy, guide sibling capture hearts around the globeBut that temporary struggle didn't stop the sly Pete from escaping his outdoor enclosure and ending up on the roof of Vera's Pacific Beach condo."So that's all he wants to do all day long, just go straight up," Vera laughed.When Vera noticed Pete was gone, he grabbed his drone and checked the few places he thought Pete could go.RELATED: Coronado gym creates 'March Madness' acts of kindness challenge"I thought it was gonna be hard to find him, but he was just blind wandering around up there you know," Vera said.Video shows Pete perched on the roof, in all his bright neon green splendor. Since there was no roof access, Vera enacted a daring rescue using his drone and some rope. Video shows the rope dangling over Pete, before the chameleon latches on a becomes the Tom Cruise of chameleons.Vera was able to hoist Pete off the roof and safely lower his pet to the ground.Vera's excitement was also caught on video: "Greatest day of my life!" 1434

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For the second time in a month, Mexico is mobilizing its National Guard. According to our reporting partner, Televisa, 15,000 troops will be at the U.S. border Monday morning.Earlier in June, Mexican authorities announced they were sending hundreds of troops to it's southern border to keep migrants from entering from Guatemala. All this in an effort to curb rampant migration."It's exploded without a solution," Foreign Affairs National Security Analyst Ron Bee said. "It's the Mexican response to the threat of tariffs made by President Trump. if they don't do enough to stop Central Americans from entering their country, and traveling across Mexico and entering our country."Televisa tells 10News that 500 troops will patrol from Calexico to Tijuana. There will be a ceremony Sunday in Mexico City."If they [troops] come across illegal immigrants they'll have to apprehend them and take them to a facility to hold onto them until they decide what to do," Bee said, whether that's sending them back home or allowing them to apply for asylum.Mexico already ramped up pressure on migrants, by cutting funding to overflowing migrant shelters, "shelters in Mexico have less access to resources, they are receiving hundreds and hundreds more people than before. They are setting up tent cities," Alex Mensing, Project Coordinator with Pueblos Sin Fronteras, said.He added Mexico has taken other measures to discourage migration, "at this point even private bus companies are being pressured to not allow people onto buses without presenting valid government ID."Bee says this is all a symptom of a bigger problem, saying the U.S. needs to adjust how we handle the large flow of migrants, or we'll repeatedly see this issue. 1749

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flames shot out a window of a Spring Valley apartment that caught fire Thursday morning.The fire broke out at the home in the 10,000 block of Austin Drive about 10 a.m.No one was injured but the family who lives there says their cat died in the fire."I heard the beep beep beep and ran up the stairs," said Jacquline Amey, "I looked in the other room it was all smoky - opened the closet and it was engulfed in flames."San Miguel, Heartland, La Mesa firefighters and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department assisted in the emergency.The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  636

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Holiday hiring is in full swing and thousands of jobs are up for grabs in Southern California. Retail giants like Kohl’s and Target have announced huge holiday openings, with Kohl’s planning to hire 90,000 holiday associates. Target is also opening up 130,000 seasonal jobs. Although big box stores are hiring a lot of seasonal employees, local businesses are also increasing staffing. Rick Mitchell, owner of the Pumpkin Station Pumpkin Patch in Del Mar says he hires around 200 temporary workers in October – from high school students to retired veterans. According to experts, if you’re looking to cash in on seasonal work, the time to look is now. Sarah Burns with San Diego Workforce Partnership says adding a personal touch will help you stand out in the seasonal job market. “Can you go in person and introduce yourself to the manager. Say hi, I’m so and so and I’m really interested in working here. That will go a long way in a customer service focused industry,” Burns said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For six years a Camp Pendleton Recon Marine allowed filmmakers full access into his life, which at one point hit rock bottom. The GI Film Festival documentary, Homemade, aims to start a conversation on taking better care of our returning veterans. Staff Sgt. Adam Sorensen was injured in 2010 by an explosive device in Afghanistan; 100 pieces of shrapnel pierced his body, and he required two surgeries.He could no longer serve in a combat role and spent the next couple of years as an instructor. The documentary follows Sorensen as he navigates civilian life and the effects of Post Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, and addiction on his marriage, family, and work.Filmmakers Danielle Bernstein and Jason Maris included scenes that can be hard to watch. "For me, it ultimately is to help people, because that's the whole reason I really wanted to make something that looked at how is this affecting people, families," said Maris.
