SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A pair of local singers are trying to help people cope with social distancing by hosting live happy hour concerts on Facebook.Don LeMaster and Corey Hable host shows a couple of times a week, singing for nearly three hours."It's just as fun for us as it is for the people watching," says LeMaster. "We love doing it, and it's helping us in our home. He had to miss a gig because he had a cold. So he decided to sing online that night.Now that he and Hable are out of work, they've kept it going. So far, they've done seven shows.The concerts have become extremely popular, garnering thousands of views. "We've had people join from Spain. We had South Korea. We had some in the Philippines, and Stockholm last night. So it's crazy."It's also therapeutic. LeMaster and Hable say they try not to mention coronavirus at all during the show, because they want it to be an escape from the realities of the outside world."What we're doing is a whole different thing," says LeMaster. They plan to do a Yacht Rock theme for this concert. And while they do accept donations through PayPal and Venmo, they say it's not about the money. We need this positivity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego company has a solution for tired employees or students -- they've created "napping pods" which can be rented by the hour."It's a place to go, escape from a hectic environment and recharge," said Hohm CEO Nikolas Woods.The pods are small, just 43.5 square feet each. They include a fully-furnished twin-size bed, mirror, charging stations, fan, lights and light and noise dampening curtains."Every piece was put together to create the most comfort," said Woods.Right now, Woods has just three pods in service, all on the University of Arizona campus. He hopes to expand to more college campuses around the country.He's also trying to get large corporations to buy some for their employees, and he's trying to get some places in major airports as well."A lot of employees could use a break," Woods said. "Wouldn't it be better to go somewhere and recharge, get your productivity level up?"People can find and book the pods through the Hohm website. It costs around per hour, with a 30 minute minimum and 4 hour max.Woods hopes to launch an app this spring to make booking even easier.He said each installation will have an attendant nearby to help people check in, clean the pods and enforce a strict one-person-per-pod rule. 1266

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Lakeside mother made a life-changing sacrifice for a teenager she had never met.“I went into this not knowing if I would ever meet the family,” said Tiffany Jokerst of the surgery.Jokers, a math teacher, has spent her life giving to others. She was web surfing when she noticed a post that would push her to do even more.“I actually saw a story online about a little girl who needed a kidney,” said Jokerst.Without hesitation, Jokerst launched into the process, only to learn she was not a match to the girl. However, Jokerst was a match to 17-year-old Alejandro Hernandez.“Alejandro has been struggling with kidney disease all his life, finally his kidneys failed,” said Dr. Elizabeth Ingulli of Rady Children’s Hospital.The hospital currently has 29 patients on its transplant waiting list.Jokerst agreed to the surgery and Hernandez received the transplant he desperately needed.“I can play soccer, work out, hang out with my friends,” Hernandez said.Jokerst and Hernandez met for the first time Tuesday. Their biological bond is undeniable and they hope their new friendship lasts a lifetime.“I’m so happy,” Hernandez said. 1156

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A judge declared a mistrial Monday in the retrial of an undocumented immigrant accused of being the driver in a San Ysidro hit-and-run crash which seriously injured a young boy.Constantino Banda Acosta was charged with the crash on Camino de la Plaza May 6, 2017.Investigators said Banda ran a stop sign at Dairy Mart Rd. and crashed his pickup truck into the Lake family’s Honda Accord.6-year-old Lennox Lake was in a child safety seat at the back of the car. He suffered serious head injuries.Banda left the scene but was arrested about two miles away after Border Patrol agents spotted his damaged truck parked on a street, police said.RELATED: Retrial begins for undocumented immigrant in crashDuring Banda's first trial, his passenger, Jorge Adame Ariza, also an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, testified under a grant of immunity during the defendant's two-day preliminary hearing in June that he and Banda had a number of beers that night before the accident.Adame said Banda got into a fight with another man outside a Chula Vista restaurant. Adame told them he picked up Banda but later moved into the passenger seat with Banda behind the wheel during the crash.San Diego police Officer Michael Muniz testified in the first trial that Banda's blood-alcohol content measured .151 and .152 percent -- the legal limit is .08 -- during two breathalyzer tests.Federal immigration officials said Banda has been deported from the United States 17 times.Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials told 10News if Banda is not tried again (and effectively not convicted) he may or may not be deported.  ICE has requested that he be forwarded to the agency's custody upon any potential release.
