(KGTV) - A group of Massachusetts police officers and firefighters are being hailed as heroes after coming to the aid of a choking puppy this week.North Reading resident Megan Vitale stormed into a police station Sunday telling officers her 9-week-old Saint Bernard puppy, Bodhi, was choking on food. An acquaintance came running in with Bodhi shortly after, the puppy limp and unresponsive in his arms, surveillance footage from the station showed.A group of officers came running out to begin administering first aid to the puppy. A group of North Reading firefighters also arrived at the station to help with back blows and chest compressions. After 10 minutes, the food blockage was finally dislodged and Bodhi was revived."Ultimately, a life was saved thanks to rescuers falling back on their training and remaining calm. Even though we are not faced with this kind of incident every day, the officers reacted just as they would in any emergency situation," North Reading Police Chief Murphy said. “We are hopeful that the puppy will make a full recovery."Firefighters used a special oxygen tank designed for pets to help Bodhi get breathing again."Many of our firefighters have pets at home in their own families. We do not get to choose the emergency situation that comes our way, so it is important that first responders be prepared for anything," Fire Chief Stats said.Bodhi was able to leave with Vitale to receive follow-up care from a veterinarian, according to the police department. 1534

(KGTV) — California is taking its time before issuing guidance to allow the state's theme parks to reopen during the coronavirus pandemic.Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state was not planning to issue such guidance soon, despite reports last week that rules that would allow the shuttered locations to reopen would be issued soon.Disney Chairman Bob Iger recently left the state's economic recovery task force, an early indication that business leaders for the industry could be at odds with the state over reopening. According to the Associated Press, Erin Guerrero, executive director of the California Attractions and Parks Association, said amusement park leaders wanted changes to a proposed draft they reviewed this month."There’s disagreements in terms of opening a major theme park. We’re going to let science and data make that determination," Newsom said, adding that he wasn't "surprised at all" that Iger left.Newsom said the state is continuing to work with the industry and would approach theme parks with a "health-first" framework, but was not in a hurry to release rules."We are going to be led by a health-first framework and we’re going to be stubborn about it," Newsom said. "That’s our commitment — that’s our resolve. We feel there’s no hurry putting out guidelines."He added that working to put out appropriate rules would depend on local data."It’s very complex. These are like small cities, small communities, small towns. (KGTV) – A powerful tribute to late actor Chadwick Boseman was unveiled this week at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.The mural shows Boseman exchanging the “Wakanda Forever” salute with a child wearing a Black Panther mask.Nikkolas Smith, a former Disney Imagineer who was on the set of the Black Panther film, created the new art installation called “King Chad.”The actor silently battled colon cancer for years, even while filming some of his major movies. He also visited children who were also fighting cancer.Boseman passed away on Aug. 28 at the age of 43.Smith said in a statement, “As a former Disney Imagineer, I had the honor of working on a major children's hospital initiative and Avengers Campus as my final two assignments. Seeing Chadwick's heart for people in-person, and later discovering his courageous battle with cancer, I was inspired to create this tribute to honor his life and legacy ...
