SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Time to celebrate, San Diego. Your two favorite tiger cubs are ready for visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Friday the zoo released video of the cubs enjoying their new home. The approximately 3-month-old, rescued Bengal tiger cub and his 4-month-old companion, a Sumatran tiger cub are settling in nicely at the Tull Family Tiger Trail. “The two cubs are adjusting really well to their new home,” said Lori Hieber, senior mammal keeper at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. “They’re doing great. They act like little brothers; they play and cuddle a lot, and they squabble a bit like most brothers, but it’s all natural, healthy behavior.”The Bengal tiger cub was brought to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on  August 23, 2017, after being confiscated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers during a vehicle inspection at the U.S./Mexico port of entry near San Diego. RELATED: Customs and Border Protection agents seize tiger cub at US-Mexico borderHe remains under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Sumatran tiger cub was born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, but his mother was unable to care for him properly. RELATED: Washington, DC tiger cub flown to San Diego to be paired with smuggled tigerThe cubs have bonded well and are growing quickly - weighing in at 32 pounds. They are fully weaned from formula, and now eat an exclusively carnivore diet.As they continue to grow, the Bengal tiger will eventually outweigh the Sumatran tiger by about 200 pounds, given the difference between these two tiger subspecies.“We feel really fortunate to have these two cubs here,” said Hieber. “It was an unusual circumstance for us to acquire them, but we think they’re in the best possible hands, and they’re going to have a wonderful life while they’re here at Tiger Trail.” The cubs will be visible to guests daily from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. They may also be seen occasionally on the Safari Park’s online Tiger Cam.Like all tigers, the critically endangered Sumatran tiger and endangered Bengal tiger subspecies face many challenges in the wild, from loss of habitat to conflicts with humans, but the biggest threat continues to be poaching. Tigers are killed by poachers who illegally sell tiger body parts, mostly for folk remedies. People can help protect wild tigers by avoiding products made with non-sustainable palm oil, an industry that harms tiger habitat; and by refusing to purchase items made from endangered wildlife. 2528

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Though there are still votes to be counted, data from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters is showing how residents voted on some of the most widely publicized races this midterm election. While the Registrar's data reports 100 percent of precincts, there are about 490,000 outstanding ballots waiting to be processed — so these numbers are not the county's official results. They do, however, show how San Diegans compare in statewide races.STATEThe race for governor was fairly close according to the data, with Democrat Gavin Newsom leading 53.87 percent to Republican John Cox's 46.13 percent.Cox conceded to Newsom late Tuesday after statewide numbers showed Newsom take the lead, winning 59 percent to 41 percent.RELATED: Nathan Fletcher, Jim Desmond win San Diego County Board of Supervisors seatsIn the race for U.S. Senator, San Diegans voted for Democrat Dianne Feinstein 53.6 percent to fellow Democrat Kevin De Leon's 46.4 percent. Darrell Issa's 49th District seat with 56.86 percent of the vote. The race for the 50th District remained close as well, with Republican incumbent Duncan Hunter holding on over challenger Ammar Campa-Najjar with 53.94 percent of the vote in San Diego.PROPOSITIONSProposition 6, known as the gas tax repeal, took favor in San Diego County with 52.64 percent of the vote. Though statewide the prop failed, only gaining a 45 percent approval vote. The Daylight Saving Time measure, Proposition 7, also had fans in San Diego County with 68.55 percent approval. Statewide that lead shrunk to about 60 percent in support of changing DST.RELATED: Democrats eye path to San Diego City Council SupermajoritySan Diego County voters shot down a proposition to implement rent control in California, with 64.29 percent saying "no." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Registrar of Voters is asking those who received mail ballots to check their mail ballot packets, according to County News Center. Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said his office has received more than a dozen reports of missing mail ballots in the election packets for the June 5 Gubernatorial Primary. According to the registrar, as many as 1,500 ballots could be affected. Though that number is small compared to the total number of ballots, Vu said his office wants to make sure every voter gets the ballot they asked for.RELATED: Early voting begins in San Diego ahead of June 5 primary election  Nearly 1.1 million mail ballots were sent to county voters last week. The issue with the packets was traced to the vendor’s mechanical inserter equipment. The problem was corrected, but voters are still being asked to double-check their packets.“If you find there is no ballot inside or you have two cards, give us a call,” said Vu. “We will suspend the packet and re-issue you a new one.”Those who experience the problem with their ballot can call the Registrar of Voters at 858-565-5800. 1141

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Workforce Partnership is accepting applications for its income-sharing agreement, which only requires graduates to pay back the cost if they make at least ,000 a year.San Diegans have about a month to apply online for the program, which offers certificates in User Experience Design, Database Management, or Java Programming through UCSD Extension. The priority application period ends Aug. 2. Ellie Solorio is about to complete the program in Front End Development. She just landed a job at Petco, doubling her pay from her prior positions, such as in retail and administrative work."I mean it hasn't even sunk in yet really, but it's a complete sense of hope at the end that there are things I need to take care of and now I will be able to," she said.Participants get access to education and career services, which is paid for through the fund. Then, once they are done, they begin making payments based on their income for 36 to 60 months. Graduates make payments of 6% to 8% of their annual salary only if they are earning at least ,000. The money goes back into the fund that pays for the next group of cohorts. "With a student loan you're paying that back regardless of whether or not you are securing a job upon graduation," said Adrienne Chuck, an Income Share Agreement Analyst with the San Diego Workforce Partnership. "With an Income Share Agreement, you only pay it back if you secure a job and get a minimum salary."No student will ever pay more than ,800, according to the program's website.According to UCSD Extension, the programs currently offered cost ,875 for Java Programming, ,775 for database management, and ,400 for user experience design. Those prices exclude textbooks and other course materials. "We know that upskilling and training in particular fields with a particular skill set is something that industry is willing to pay for, and that really is the role of extension, to ensure that San Diego and California and the nation as a whole, individuals are getting trained for those skills that industry is looking for," said Josh Shapiro, assistant dean of innovation and research affairs at UCSD Extension. The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that Database Administrators earn a median ,750; Software Developers 5,000, and a Web Developers ,760. CNN Money says a user experience designer earns a median ,000 and called it one of the best jobs in America. 2454
