A new survey finds 20 percent of grandparents hate their grandchild's name.Online British parenting websites Mumsnet and Gransnet surveyed 2,000 parents and grandparents to learn just how closely grandparents are involved in the naming of a baby.Thirty-eight percent of parents responded saying it is none of the grandparents' business when it comes to choosing babies’ names. Just 31 percent of grandparents agree with that.Fifteen percent of parents say they have a parent or in-law who hates their baby’s name.The disagreement over a baby's name can have long-lasting effects. Six percent of parents say they have fallen out with their parents or in-laws because of the name they gave their son or daughter."Choosing a baby name is fraught enough for parents when you’re only taking into account your own views," said Mumsnet Founder Justine Roberts. A non-profit in California has developed a way to capture poachers who snatch sea turtle eggs - building lookalike eggs with GPS trackers constructed inside them.According to research published Monday in the journal Current Biology, the InvestEGGator is a 3D-printed life-like turtle egg that can be tracked as far away as 137 kilometers (85 miles)."It replicates the appearance, weight, and feel of a real turtle egg. It is easily deployed at low risk to investigators, can be programmed and monitored remotely using web-based and smartphone applications, and is a low cost, allowing for deployment of many units at once," said the Ventura-based Paso Pacífico, the non-profit that developed the eggs.The decoy eggs are placed in real nests alongside real eggs, which are monitored and mapped every time they are moved, the non-profit said.The research showed that the decoy eggs provide a signal once every hour."Using data provided by the decoys, we identified trafficking routes and on two occasions properties of potential interest to law enforcement," researchers said in the journal. "Decoys also yielded anecdotal information, furthering our understanding of trafficking routes." 1194

A teacher's assistant handbook is causing some controversy at the University of Maryland. The handbook was meant for Computer Science TA's and had separate instructions for both men and women. Now, some people are saying the comments made inside are sexist.It tells the women their students may have trouble accepting they are in the scientific field because it's a male associated activity. The handbook continues to say this is good practice for the real world because students may not be the only ones having trouble accepting women as a professional. 607

A standoff between police and an armed suspect that resulted in one officer's death and the wounding of another remains underway Saturday afternoon in Pomona, California, near Los Angeles, more than 15 hours after it began.The suspect is barricaded inside an apartment home after fatally shooting an officer and wounding a second one, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department."It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive," Pomona police Chief Michael Olivieri tweeted early Saturday morning. A Polk County, Florida woman was arrested earlier this month after she reportedly brought "her meth" with her to a doctor's office to have it tested. Barbara Ray, 73, of Polk County, told the staff at the doctor's office that she had been taking meth for about a month, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. She said she brought the drugs with her so that she and "her meth" could be tested to make sure all was well. The Sheriff's Office was called and a deputy responded to the office. The deputy tested the drugs and found it was in fact methamphetamine. Ray was arrested on November 5. She was charged with 2 counts of Possession of Methamphetamine, and 2 counts of Possession of Narcotic Paraphernalia. She was booked into the Polk County Jail on Monday, November 5, 2018 and released on Wednesday, November 7, 2018.  864
