SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One man is behind bars after a series of events in Rancho Penasquitos, including nearly running over a firefighter. Around 2:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol received a report of a reckless vehicle on SR-76 near Cole Grade Road Monday. The blue Toyota RAV4 was reported after unsafely passing vehicles and speeding in the area. Shortly after, CHP reported that the driver - Falahi Abrahim - was involved in a crash and started a brush fire.Shortly after Cal Fire responded to the fire, 37-year-old Abrahim from fled the scene - nearly hitting the firefighter who was trying to help him.Police officers followed, but Abrahim refused to stop and a pursuit began. The pursuit continued westbound on SR-76 to I-15 and transitioned to I-15 Southbound. The vehicle continued to flee from officers on I-15 Southbound and exited the freeway at Camino Del Norte where the vehicle progressed eastbound.During the chase Abrahim failed to stop for two red lights at separate intersections and officers discontinued the pursuit in the interest of public safety.A San Diego Police Department helicopter continued to follow the car, communicating Abrahim's location to the CHP. At 3:11 p.m. the driver stopped near the 10000 block of Carmel Mountain Road. After a short foot pursuit, Abrahim was taken into custody and arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of a drug and felony evading charges.The incident involving the assault of the firefighter at the collision scene is still under investigation. 1572

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than a dozen men were arrested after Border Patrol says they tried to enter the US illegally by boat Monday morning. According to Border patrol, the first incident began around 12:30 a.m. Monday when the US Coast Guard spotted a 23-foot-long vessel with four men onboard roughly six miles off the coast of Mission Bay. All the men, who were determined to be Mexican nationals, were taken into custody for entering the US illegally. Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, the Coast Guard found a small panga-style boat off the Imperial Beach pier with nine men onboard. The nine people aboard the boat admitted to being Mexican nationals and were all taken into custody, according to the agency. 714

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Pro-choice demonstrations gathered outside the federal courthouse in downtown San Diego Tuesday afternoon. The rally was one of hundreds that took place across the country as part of a "Stop the Bans" national day of action. The protests are in response to a law in Alabama that only makes abortion legal when the woman's life is at risk. Several other conservative southern and midwestern states are considering similar measures to restrict access to abortions. "It's a very personal thing, and it's something everybody should have the right to do, to choose yes, I'm going to keep this child or no, I'm not," said Cynthia Knoop. Activists, elected officials, and faith-based leaders chanted, sang songs, and vowed to "not take a step back.""I can't believe we're still fighting this fight and having this discussion. I'm scared for the future generation, the younger women," said Helen Zeldes.Two middle school students also attended. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Wednesday released bodycam video following a deadly officer-involved shooting in Oak Park in late January. The graphic video opens with San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit explaining what led up to the shooting. According to Nisleit, officers spotted Toby Diller, 31, on the 2900 block of 54th Street with an open container of alcohol. RELATED: Officers, suspect identified in deadly Oak Park shootingNisleit says officers activated lights on their patrol car and tried to make contact with Diller, but he ran away. Video of the incident shows the officers, later identified as Benjamin Downing and Devion Johnson, running after Diller before catching up to him. At that point, Nisleit says Diller resisted arrest, grappling with police on the ground. "The officers gave him verbal commands to stop resisting, but he refused to cooperate,'' Lt. Matt Dobbs previously said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a woman suspected of shooting a woman in the Southcrest area Monday morning.San Diego police said officers were called to the 900 block of South 39th Street just after 7 a.m. in response to a person injured in a shooting.Officers arrived to find a woman with a gunshot wound to her chest. She was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, but her condition is unknown as of 10 a.m.Witnesses told police the suspected shooter, a woman, fled the scene in a silver sedan.Moments after the shooting, the California Highway Patrol received a report of a crash on Interstate 805 near state Route 54 involving the vehicle believed to be driven by the suspected shooter.CHP officials believes the suspected shooter may have been injured in the crash but left the scene.Police are checking to see if the woman sought treatment at any area hospitals. 889
