(AP) — California officials say the state Republican Party has yanked unofficial drop boxes that came under fire last weekend, but declined to weigh in on whether the GOP’s continued use of boxes to collect votes was legal. The state says it is issuing a subpoena to seek more information about the boxes during the election. Republicans say they have been following the law and corrected a mislabeled box as soon as they learned of the problem. They say they will continue to use boxes to collect ballots and the state's actions have sought to intimidate their supporters. And it just never dawned one me to check the name just because it looked like my card. Before it declined it, we were able to pump gas with this card," she added.That`s when she and her husband realized something was wrong."We looked down at the card and saw that it wasn`t our name on the card, same bank, same color card, same everything, just not our name," said receiver of wrong card.So they traced their steps back and found out Gilligan's Carlisle pike had their card and luckily, it had not been charged.But what about the money they accidentally charged on the other person's card?We`re trying to make it right and just pay that back the guy because it wasn`t our card, it`s not right," she said.Al Pioppo at the Members First headquarters in Cumberland County says they are doing the right thing."That`s fantastic that they did go the extra step and it makes our job a lot easier, we don`t have to file a dispute for the member and if we can make the other member whole that`s fantastic," said Al Pioppo, Vice President of card services at Members First.He says situations like these happen more often than not."Not everybody`s honest," said Pioppo.And there are things to keep in mind if it happens to you.First, call your bank."We can check into the account, we`ll notify the member and then we can shut down the card immediately so that it can`t be used by anybody," he added."I think it`s so important to be honest. Nelson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced the change Saturday at the faith's twice-yearly conference. He says the new "home-centered church" strategy reflects the faith's increasingly global membership where not all Latter-day Saints live close to a chapel or even have a chapel.Since 1980, church members have been expected to attend a one-hour sacrament worship service each Sunday, followed by two hours of meetings such as Sunday school and men's and women's groups.RELATED: Latter-day Saints dropping the 'Mormon' monikerUnder the schedule change, which takes effect in January, members will continue attending the one-hour Sunday service but then have only one additional hour of meetings.Quentin L. (AP) — Scientists say they have found an elusive chameleon species that was last spotted in Madagascar 100 years ago.Researchers from Madagascar and Germany said Friday they've discovered several living specimens of Voeltzkow’s chameleon during an expedition to the northwest of the African island nation.A team led by scientists from the Bavarian Natural History Collections said genetic analysis determined that the species is closely related to Labord’s chameleon.“These animals are basically the mayflies among vertebrates,” said Frank Glaw, curator for reptiles and amphibians at the ZSM, told the AP.Researchers believe that both reptiles only live during the rainy season. They hatch from eggs, grow rapidly, spar with rivals, mate, and then die during a few short months."The assumed short life might also partly explain why this splendid species got 'lost' for many decades, since most roads in its habitat are not accessible in the wet season," researchers wrote in a report in the journal Salamandra. 1019

(CNN) -- A man who was mistakenly circumcised in a hospital mix-up has been awarded compensation, the hospital said.Terry Brazier, aged 70, went into Leicester Royal Infirmary for a bladder procedure known as a cystoscopy but was mistaken for another patient by hospital staff and circumcised.The hospital apologized and carried out an investigation, before confirming on Monday it had awarded Brazier a ￡20,000 (,300) payout.Brazier told the British newspaper the Daily Star that he was so distracted talking to hospital staff that he didn't notice he was getting the incorrect procedure until it was too late."They didn't know what to say when they found out they'd done it, they said they can't send me back to the ward and they needed to talk to me," he told the newspaper.Brazier added that finding out he had been circumcised was "a real surprise."Andrew Furlong, medical director at University Hospitals of Leicester, said in a statement: "We remain deeply and genuinely sorry that this mistake occurred, and I would like to take this opportunity to once again apologise to Mr Brazier.""We take events like this very seriously and carried out a thorough investigation at the time to ensure that we learnt from this incident and do all we can to avoid it happening again.
