Officers in New Jersey broke up a large house party in New Jersey with hundreds of people in attendance, authorities said.Police responded to a residence along Mill Pond Road in Jackson following a report of a suspicious incident around 8:30 p.m., according to Jackson Police Department.Officers arrived and spoke with several neighbors who said a house on the street was rented out to a group that was having a large party, causing a disturbance.Police contacted the homeowner, who said he had rented out the residence on Airbnb.The party expanded to about 700 people in attendance, with over 100 vehicles parked in the area, according to police.Officers began clearing the crowd from the residence and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted and authorized charges against the homeowner and party organizer for violating the state’s executive order in reference to the number of attendees allowed at a gathering.Officers from the Freehold Police Department, Howell Police Department, Lakewood Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and New Jersey State Police also responded to assist and clear the large crowd from the residence and direct traffic as people left the area, according to authorities.During that time, police also received a call from a resident nearby reporting people who attended the party had broken into their residence and were damaging property.An investigation determined a family member of the caller was at the original party and had invited a large group back to their residence. The group was then dispersed, police said.It took until 1 a.m. for the officers to clear the residences of partygoers and all the vehicles from the neighborhood.The homeowner, later identified as 40-year-old Yaakov Weiss and the party organizers, 23-year-old Patience Guanue and 22-year-old Alicia Hinneh, were issued summonses.Gov. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- In a 5-2 vote Tuesday night, the Tri-City Medical Center's board of directors voted to suspend, indefinitely, care in its inpatient behavioral health unit. The Tri-City Healthcare District has operated a Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) for a number of years and a Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) since 2016. The CSU is already closed. According to an administrative staff report, the BHU averages roughly 12 patients per day.The unit provides critical care to a vulnerable population those who are suicidal or suffering from severe mental illness, but the board says keeping it open without making the required building changes could put those patients at greater risk. Tuesday night the Tri-City Healthcare District cited changes in federal regulations as one of the main reasons they will need to suspend services. Those regulations require hospitals to remove all "ligature" risks from rooms - or features that patients could use to hang themselves. The board said that the hospital's "drop" ceilings do not meet the requirements. At least one estimate put the cost to replace the ceilings at million dollars.Upgrading the ceilings is one item on a list of costly projects, a spokesperson for Tri-City Medical Center told 10News.  The overall renovation project will cost .5 million, which include updates to the HVAC system and making other upgrades to the facility to meet current ADA requirements.The board also says there's a shortage of psychiatrists and a budget shortfall in that ward of roughly million. "The patients made our argument for us," said Livingstone referring to a patient recently saying she waited 48 hours to be seen.Livingstone went on to say, "You're concerned about a 45 minute drive for a mental health crisis, try a 45 minute drive if you're actively having a stroke and your brain is dying."As the energy in the room grew tense, the board reminded the public that suspending the unit gives the hospital the option to re-open it if a solution is found.The suspension, which could last up to one year, means that any North County residents or "5150 transports"  will be sent to hospitals much farther away. Police and sheriff's deputies say the added time it will take to transport "5150 transports" - or psychiatric patients - to Palomar Hospital in Escondido or San Diego County Mental Health will impact every neighborhood. "With the closure of your facility that will increase probably three to five hours, that's an officer off the street in your city- do you want that?" said La Mesa Police Captain Ray Sweeney.Captain Sweeny told the board roughly one in five adults experiences mental illness each year.A man who battles severe mental illness told the board that the psych unit at Tri-City has saved him countless times. "When I get to the hospital everything changes," he said. "From the moment the first nurse touches my arm, I feel like I'm being touched by an angel."  Some doctors spoke in favor of the move; saying the entire staff supports the decision to suspend the psych ward, but increase outpatient services.The unit is scheduled to close on October 2, 2018. 3558

Once a COVID-19 vaccine is approved by the Food and Drug Administration, it will face another hurdle before being distributed in California.Governor Gavin Newsom announced Monday he has created a scientific safety review workgroup who will “independently review the safety and efficacy of any vaccine that received FDA approval for distribution,” according to his office.The workgroup is part of California’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan, which was submitted to the CDC on Friday. (KGTV) - A major turning point for the town of Oceanside was the creation of Camp Pendleton."It was just a village, Oceanside was just a village and all of a sudden you have all these workers coming into Oceanside for a place to sleep, a place to eat," said Faye Jonason, History and Museum Director at Camp Pendleton since 1996.According to the Oceanside Historical Society, the town's population more than doubled in five years. Restaurants, schools, and hotels were bursting at the seams. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor spurred the U.S. Navy to purchase the 132,000 acres of Rancho Santa Margarita y las Flores Mexican land grant. The base was only supposed to be temporary, but the process of turning the quiet Rancho into the world's largest Marine Corps Base had begun. "I think they found it was such good training area, they weren't about to let go," said Jonason.
