DESCANSO (KGTV) -- A San Diego County couple is warning others after getting a flat tire from an unusual source. Pamela Jessup was running errands in her Toyota RAV4 on SR-79 near Old Highway 80 last Thursday when she heard a thump.Jessup says she pulled over and looked at her back tire. After not seeing anything wrong, she went on her way.The thumping, however, only intensified after she drove onto Interstate 8. When she drove home, Jessup says her husband Davis found a temporary lane marker nailed in to the tire. While doing their due diligence, the Descanso residents found dozens of temporary nail markers along the side of the road in the same area where Jessup ran into issues.A local tire shop was able to fix the damage to the tire, but it cost the pair . Other residents in the area took to social media to complain similar events that happened to them.On Facebook, at least three others said they also got flat tires after driving through the area. From Tuesday through Friday, neighbors reported a road construction project that included restriping.A spokesperson for the Caltrans subcontractor Granite Construction issued this statement: 1179
Despite a prenatal condition that left him without a hand, Shaquem Griffin has always dreamed of playing in the NFL. On Saturday the Seattle Seahawks made that dream a reality — and gave Griffin the unique opportunity to play alongside his twin brother.Griffin was born a few minutes after his brother in 1995 with amniotic band syndrome. The condition left him with an underdeveloped hand that caused him severe pain, and Griffin later had his entire left hand amputated.Despite the setback, Griffin took up football and still routinely dominated opponents at Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg. When he signed to play collegiately at Central Florida in 2013, recruiting service Rivals listed him as a 3-star prospect.Griffin and his brother, Shaquill Griffin, continued stellar play together in college. Shaquill left UCF a year early and was drafted by the Seahawks in 2017. While Shaquill played in the NFL, Shaquem stayed behind and lead the Knights to an undefeated season at linebacker, recording 74 tackles, an interception and a fumble return for a touchdown. At the NFL Combine earlier this year, Shaquem stunned scouts by bench pressing 225 pounds 20 times while wearing a prosthetic hand. Shaquem only wore the hand to steady the weight bar, and does not wear the prosthetic on the field. On Saturday, the Shaquill was there with the rest of his family to congratulate his brother and new teammate when the Seahawks selected Shaquem with the 141st pick in the Draft. DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - It’s the first day of Bing Crosby winter horse racing at the Del Mar Racetrack and fans are making their way through the gates. Race officials say safety, for riders and horses, is the top priority for everyone. The Bing Crosby season is 15 days shorter than the summer season. Trainers say the Del Mar track is one the best because of San Diego's weather. "This track, especially in the fall, is the safest dirt track in the world," says trainer Bob Hess. "Moisture is really important for a racing surface."RELATED: Del Mar Thoroughbred Club upgrades horse safety for 2019 racing seasonAfter a successful summer meet, the Del Mar Racetrack expects the same this time around for the winter season. "Safety is everything here," says Joe Harper, CEO of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. "Last year, we had a really good meet. Not one horse was injured in racing."Harper says the entire racing industry has been under close watch after recent deaths at the Santa Anita Racetrack. Some politicians even suggested suspending racing there. "It's tens of thousands of jobs. It's a billion-dollar industry," says Harper. "It's not just closing down a racetrack; it's closing down an industry."RELATED: New Del Mar Racetrack protocols aim to make sport safer and more humaneTrainer Bob Hess says the horses have a way of communicating; it's their job as trainers to listen to them. "They will give us everything they have, but it's also our job as trainers, jockeys, owners, and even racetrack management to care for the horse. Put the horse first."The racetrack has a lot of fun things for visitors to do over the next 15 days, including concerts, wine, and beer tastings, and even a full day of holiday fun on Thanksgiving. DAYTON, Ohio. (AP) -- A Twitter account that appears to be from the gunman who killed nine people in Dayton, Ohio, showed tweets that labeled himself a "leftist," bemoaned the election of President Donald Trump, supported Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren and encouraged people to cut fences of immigrant detention centers. While investigators are still trying to determine a motive for Sunday's attack by 24-year-old Connor Betts before he was gunned down by police, his apparent Twitter feed offers a window into his politics. And it stands in contrast to the social media of El Paso shooting suspect Patrick Crusius, which appeared to support Trump and his border wall. The Associated Press archived some of the feed but it was taken down by Twitter late Sunday amid online speculation it belonged to the Ohio shooter. 826
