Hurricane Willa has made landfall near Isla Del Bosque, Sinaloa, on the western coast of Mexico, approximately 50 miles south of Mazatlán.The storm will quickly weaken over the next 24 hours as it makes its way across the Sierra Madre range and becomes a rainmaker for northern Mexico and Texas on Wednesday.When Willa made landfall Tuesday evening, it had top winds of 120 MPH. The Category 3 storm, while still a major hurricane, has weakened since peaking as a Category 5 hurricane on Monday. Willa has been a danger for forecasters as well. An aircraft with the Air Force Reserve's Hurricane Hunters was forced to turn around Monday over concerns for its onboard equipment after a lightning bolt from one of Willa's outer rain bands blasted it, according to the National Hurricane Center.In a tweet Monday, Mexican President Enrique Pe?a Nieto said he has asked the National System of Civil Protection to take all steps necessary to protect those in the hurricane's path as well as those affected by Tropical Storm Vicente, a weaker system tracking south of Willa that's also primed to make landfall Tuesday. Vicente likely will be a tropical depression by the time it comes ashore, the hurricane center said.Airlines have started moving out of Willa's path. Southwest Airlines has canceled all flights at the international airport in Puerto Vallarta, a resort city in Jalisco state. If you watch the Republican National Convention this week, you will hear claims from Republicans that Joe Biden, if elected, would hurt suburban living. So what are Republicans talking about? THE POLICYRepublicans are talking about the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule, which President Barack Obama and Biden updated in 2015. Biden has signaled he'd support even further updating of the rule. The rule basically says that if a town takes federal money, they should examine whether they engage in housing discrimination. Nothing is mandated, but it generally encourages an examination of whether zoning laws encourage developers to build large, family homes as opposed to more affordable options like an apartment or a condo. Trump disagrees with that policy and is against the rule. BATTLE FOR THE SUBURBSThe issue is being brought up by Republicans because for them, the election will be decided by the suburbs. Cities will generally vote for Biden, rural America will vote for Trump. How large suburbs vote will determine who is in the White House. Kim Stewart is an undecided voter living in a suburban community an hour outside of Washington D.C. "I love having the space, having a yard," Stewart said, talking about why she and her husband moved to the suburbs. In a heartbreaking Facebook post, a Maryland animal shelter announced they found a puppy with its ears cut off tied to a tree in Baltimore. BARCS say they got a call saying someone had found two dogs tied to a tree and several other puppies in an empty lot. When the officer arrived, they found one of the puppies was bleeding from the head and the other puppies were for sale. The puppies were immediately taken to BARCS where they were seen by a vet. They named the injured dog Claude and determined that his ears were removed using poor instruments, like household objects, leaving him with tissue damage, pain, and infection. Claude is only 10 weeks old and BARCS says he is trying to do normal puppy things, but cannot because of the pain. He received emergency surgery but the veterinarians had to remove untreated infected tissue, so he lost even more of his ear structure. BARCS is now asking for money so they can continue to help Claude so he can find a loving home and recover. Hurricane Zeta made landfall Wednesday afternoon with sustained winds estimated at 110 mph, a category 2 storm. That's just 1 mile from being classified as a category 3 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center.
